I have a fair amount of fresh squeezed beaver oil( minds out of gutters;) )that I happened across a whiole back. I ahve no idea what to do with it. The stuff smells like fish, buts seems to be a pretty damn good lubricant. What can I do with it?

I trap beaver and save casters and fat for trapping lure ingredients,rendered fat makes a decent patch lube . I"m not sure about the fish smell as my lube doesn"t smell maybe more rendering is needed . I found bear oil to work better and you can bake pies !/Ed
 
On a side note, I’ve read stories of the mountain men loving beaver’s tail as a delicacy. A modern experiment of cooking and eating it a guy did I read about said it was horrible, fatty, greasy, fishy. I also read bear’s feet was considered the best cut, but haven’t read of anyone snacking on grizz’s tootsies in recent times.
 
A diet of strictly wild game meat will not provide your body enough calories to sustain yourself, especially after a hard days work. Beaver meat, mostly tail, is quite fatty and this is why they dined on it!

How many millennia did "early man" and Neanderthal dine on nothing but game meats and a few nuts and berries?
I'm don't know about them "early mans" requirements, but I know Neanderthal needed a lot more calories a day than we do, and they were around for over 200,000 years … a lot longer than "humans" have been here, at any rate.

Game meats have about the same calories as any lean meat you're going to find at the grocers. (and game meats taste better, too, IMHO)

Well, nuts are fatty. Lean boughten meat cooked at home is served with other food (potatoes, rice, etc) and baked or fried usually with an oil of sorts. Not even a comparison to cooking over a fire. Fat is a requirement!

About 50 years ago, one of my now dead classmates, and his wife, were living strictly on wild game. During the winter they got to feeling rather poorly and went to a doctor and his diagnosis was a lack of fat in their diet.This fellow did own a filling station and was doing a lot of tire repair. In those days it was all manual labor. Anyway the doctor's advice was to buy some beef hamburger and alternate it for a while. Apparently it did work as I never heard any more about it. I would've thought that a straight venison, elk, and antelope diet would've got pretty tiresome, especially if he never added any beef tallow, or maybe a little bacon to some of the roasts, the meat would've been quite dry. I knew the fellow well and even hunted with him when we were in high school 65 years ago. He was one that rather went to extremes on many things, so I could believe that that was the problem. He never told me About this himself, but I got it on fairly good third-hand knowledge.

In todays world, and with our average amount of daily work, if you were to attempt to sustain life off solely wild game meat with absolutely nothing else, once your fat reserves were consumed you would lose an average of 1 pound of body weight per day as your body slowly, and literally ate itself.
