I'm looking for a couple of pieces of flint for my fire kit, I would like to find pieces about 3x5" or little bigger that I can shape a little.

I know there half dozen online shops, I would prefer to deal with a "local"

Go start grazing parking lots and planter areas where they have used river rock for landscaping.
I have found some really great flint there.! Some as big as 8 and 10". Be prepared to get some strange looks though...
I just answer - Looking for parts for my rifle....

Can you be more specific about, "deal with a local"? What do you consider local?

I wouldn't know flint if I tripped over it, and it's not really native around here

If you were to give folks an idea where you are, you might just get an offer of free flint from someone near you. I have given a lot of it away here in Texas...actually chert, but it sparks very good for fire starting.

I'm in CT west of Hartford. I have some I took off a friend's land in Fla. back in Oct. I don't think it is good enough for knives, arrow/spear points, or nice rifle flints, but it makes sparks off a steel. If you are in this part of CT. I'll give you a piece or two that you can break down smaller.

I'm in Torrington, Tom is sending me some, an extra piece or two never hurts, always someone to teach.

I shoot in Colebrook if you might be interested in stopping up
