Have both in 54 caliber
What size patch and round ball
Is everyone finding to work best

Thank you for the help

Don't know what works best, but works very well for me, shooting offhand at various targets out to 100 yards is:
1) 60 grains FFg black powder
2) .53" lead roundball
3) Walmart cotton ticking, washed, cut into one and a quarter inch strips wet in my mouth and cut off at muzzle after starting the ball ( Measures about .018" thick)
4) Flintlock priming: FFFg works for me

Good luck, Enjoy!

I also use a .530 diameter lead roundball and a .018 thick Walmart cotton ticking patch, lubed with Stumpkiller's Moose Juice.
I've found that all of my .54's seem to shoot best with a 80 grain powder load of 2Fg black powder or Pyrodex RS.

I use .53 round ball with commercial cut spit patches .015 thick. I have anHoyt barrel that likes a .20 patch moistened with spit and it loads the same from the first shot to the last. Powder is 2 or 3f Swiss and loads from 60 to 80 grains work well.

.530 round ball.
A friend has both TC Renegade and Hawken in .54 caliber. (percussion)
He uses the TC pre-cut and bore butter(?) pre-lubed lubed pillow tic patches.
in front of 80 or 90 grains (I forget which)) SWISS FFg powder.

I still need to work up the best load for the .54 caliber (percussion) TC Hawken he bought for me for my birthday, offa Gun Broker.

.530 ball from a Lee mold , I use lead sheeting . .015-.018 Ticking or pocket drill lubed with mink oil , Bore Butter , or bear oil for hunting and Lux Liquid and water or spit for range time . 75 gr FFG Swiss or G&O either one for Target and the same in Dupont for hunting . Seems to work the same in my Hawken and Renegade .

Ugly OLd Guy , Bore Butter is Thompson Centers lube in a tube . I think it has also been called Nature Lube at one time or another .
