Thompson Grey Hawk

Howdy folks new to the forum and have a question. I have been hunting with my Thompson Omega for quite a few years with good luck. Awhile back I picked up a Thompson Grey Hawk and have shot it a bit. Been wanting to use it in both shotgun and muzzleloader seasons. I have used both Triple Seven powder and regular pyrodex. Used maxi balls and Hornady sabots minus the sabot. Both gave good results. Pretty sure Triple Seven pellets will not do well in my Greyhawk. Any input and experience would be great! Thanks and this a awesome forum!

Pellets are designed for inline 209 primer gun's. #11 caps don't reliably set them off especially in a sidelock.

YUP I had that info even with musket caps and the conversion not reliable so I stick with old faithful number 11's.

What caliber? I'm not real sure what you're asking...what powder to use, what projectile to use, or if you can run the T7 pellets in it? Or just looking for overall load suggestions?
If a .50, it should shoot a Hornady Great Plains bullet well (they don't make them in other calibers anymore). Knowing it's a TC with a 1:48 twist I'd start with the Hornady GPB's mentioned above and 80 grains of 2f in real black or pyrodex.

Yes it is a 50 cal. and I plan to use the Hornady bullets with 80 grains pyrodex. Thanks for the input!

I have one in 54. They are oddballs in that they are far too modern for the traditionalists and far too old fashioned for the modern inline crowd. That said, I like mine really well and used it to shoot my first muzzleloader deer this Fall. Mine will shoot round balls and conicals well. Round ball does best with heavy charges for some reason and with both round ball and bullets it demands that I use a wad over the powder. May be worth trying wads in yours.

I'm a patched roundball shooter, but had shot the 410gr Buffalo Bullets in my .50. I've only shot roundballs from the .54 barrel. If you can find a 12ga New Englander or Tree Hawk barrel, it will drop right in. Likewise, New Englander rifled barrels fit, and could be bored smooth if you found one with a pitted bore.

I shot some maxi hunter bullets today 295 gr with 90 grains Pyrodex rs and it shot real nice. Think I will stick to that load for this Muzzleloader season.
