Friends, our 2nd Amendment rights are always under attack and the NRA has been a constant for decades in helping fight that fight.
We have partnered with the NRA to offer you a discount on membership and Muzzleloading Forum gets a small percentage too of each membership, so you are supporting both the NRA and us.
I have seen some chisels that are used in carving various parts of stocks. The whole length of the chisel is flat and they are bent at different angles to get into hard to reach areas. Does anyone know where these can be purchased?
Woodcraft has several gouges like this as well as a flat chisel and two undercut chisels (shown with the flat chisels). Pfeil swiss made chisels are very high quality.
Muzzleloader Builders Supply also carries some (without handles). I don't find these to be the quality of the pfeil, but then they don't cost nearly as much and will do the job.
Make what you desire. I use a lot of heavy music wire from hobby stores. You could use old screwdrivers, or just the shank. Harbor freight sells a pack of carving chisels that can be modified to whatever you want. Use a propane torch to heat red hot. Bang out what you want. Cool slowly, file/grind, polish, heat read hot, quench, temper to straw color, sharpen.
Good specialty chisels and gouges are expensive to buy and can be free to make.
