The Great Conspiracy enthusiasts were wrong in saying my demise was spread. It was Progress. All the Giant Corporations are trying to get acorns on the credit world and I got lost in the shuffle.
It ws kind enough for them to announce my death as being inactive
I forces people to contact me by Snail Mail.
I will survive. I think

Hey Dutch, got a new alias? Or did the autocorrect get you? It catches me quite often, but nothing like the dictation feature on my phone. Used it once while driving to send a text message to my bride, didn’t proof read it (I was driving), and sent her a very obscene message. Haven’t used it since.

Speaking of things like auto-correct and spell check, a little off topic joke you folks may enjoy.

George checked out the message on his phone:

First text message: Hi, George, this is Richard, next door. I've got a confession to make. I've been riddled with guilt for a few months & have been trying to get up the courage to tell you face-to-face. At least I'm telling you in this text, & I can't live with myself a minute longer without your knowing about this.

The truth is that, when you're not around, I've been sharing your wife, day & night. In fact, probably much more than you. I haven't been getting it at home recently & I know that's no excuse. The temptation was just too great. I can't live with the guilt & hope you'll accept my sincere apology & forgive me.

Please suggest a fee for usage, & I'll pay you. Regards, Richard

George, feeling enraged & betrayed, grabbed his gun, went next door, & shot Richard dead. He returned home, shot his wife, poured himself a stiff drink & sat down on the sofa. George then looked at his phone & discovered a 2nd text message from Richard.

2nd TEXT MESSAGE: Hi, George, Richard here again. Sorry about the typo on my last text. I assume you figured it out & noticed that the darned Spell-Check had changed "wi-fi" to "wife." Bloody Technology, It'll be the death of us al

I don't have a cell phone but I see a lot of people are using them. They seem popular with the deer hunters now while they're hunting deer.
Especially now that I hunt exclusively with traditional muzzleloaders, I use a cell phone with Balistic Arc loaded to get bullet drop data. You can pull up the satellite view, mark your position then mark the positions of where your likely shots will be. It will range each spot and give you the bullet drop. Round ball drops pretty fast, it's comforting data to have.
It is also very handy for marking the exact location of your downed kill. I don't get lost easily. When hunting in heavy cedar and mesquite on 8,000 acres that pretty much every square yard looks like every other square yard and the density is such that wandering off 30 or 40 yards could lose your kill for you, it's nice to be able to come back to the right spot with something to retrieve your kill and get it to the campsite.
Traditional? Well no, but I'm getting way to old to drag a kill a mile or so to get it out. Just the way it is.

No cell service in many places I hunt. Use a hand help GPS for keeping myself not so confused, and have a GPS tracker with a rescue button if things really go sideways.

Nobody on the Forum much cares but my daughter and son retrying to reverse my sudden disappearance from the internet as a person selling what amounts as my life work in the field of muzzleloading and accuracy. I don't know what removed me but I think it was a by-law in the battle of large corporations trying to crush each other including ground squirrels like myself. They are constructing something involving PayPal and eBay which will allow folks to partake of my so called wisdom.
I have to comment here on something I have learned about you good people ov the the past 36 years.
Of the approximately 6800 to 7000 sales about 4800 to or so were conducted by sending me a check. I had been told I could expect to have about 2,5 to 3% to bounce and never made good. I felt I could live with that but imagine my surprise that of al those checks only one bounced and stayed bounced.
I have even had guilt payments from folk who had been helped from using a borrowed copy.
This is incredible there is something about ml riflemen that causes them to to follow the old time paths of honesty.

I'm glad Dutch is still with us. I always thought that being out in the hinterlands hunting or doing something like hiking was to be free of civilization. I leave the phone at the truck or in camp so I won't be bothered by outside interference. I'm a dinosaur and still just have a flip phone. It's a phone, period. It's turned off while on a hunting trip.

As do I. I don't hunt as many places as I did a few years ago, but cell service where I do hunt is non-existent. I had not thought about the emergency locator transponder. Great idea! I do carry my antique Magellan Color with me and a spare set of batteries so at least I don't get turned around in the thick mesquite and cedar. I do mark a kill spot so I can find my way back with the truck or mule. Sometimes when I have to track a ways I am not really sure exactly where I am since all 2000 acres looks pretty much identical...

AN OLD.NOW LONG DEAD. HUNTING GUIDE ONCE WROTE ME THAT WHEN A DEER OR WHATEEVER RAN AND THEN FELL AFTER BEING SHOT THEY INVARIABLY RAN IN A DIRECTION AWAY FROM HIS TRUCK OR CAMPING SITE.
HE CONTENDED THAT ROUND BA DID A LOT OF INTERIOR DAMAGE THAT CAUSED THEM TO DROP WHERE THEY HAD BEEN STANDING BUT THE HEAVIER MINI BALL TYPE PROJECTILE TEND TO GO IN ONE SIDE AND OUT THE OTHER. EXPENDING A LOT OF ITS ENEGY DOWN RANGE BEYOND THE DEER AND CAUSED ITTO RUN SOME DISTANCE BEFORE FALLING.
THIS IS APPARENTLY IS QUITE A CONTROVERSIAL IDEA AND I HAVE NO OPINION ABOUTIT.

I hear you Griz. i have hunted on the same 1500 acres in Brownwood for the last 40 years. Mesquite, hardwood creeks, pecan groves, live oak bottoms, and hills and valleys that just get thicker and nastier every year. I take the phone with me everywhere. Always have one or two bars of service and at 68 years old it is comforting to know i can summon help if needed.

I THINK THIS IS MOST WISE.
PROPERTY MY DAD OWNED ON THE SHORE OF LAKE BIG BOWSTRING IN MINNESOTA THAT WAS SO HEAVILY TREED THAT IF YOU WER 10 OR 15 FEET INTO THE TREES YOU WERE HARD PRESSED TO FIND YOUR WAY BACK TO THESHORELINE AND A MORE OPEN AREA WHICH ALSO WAS CONNECTED TO A ROAD OUT

I take it the deer was north bound and was shot in the south end, maybe?

I carry a SPOT GPS messenger that has worked in Europe, Alaska, Africa and in Western States. https://www.findmespot.com/en-us/products-services/spot-gen3. Around home I hunt on a 3k acre plot of land in the mountains and can find cell service only at the higher hill tops. From the cabin on the property it is 20 minutes by vechical to get to marginal cell service. The SPOT devise, when it senses movement, can be set to send your location out every few minutes and can be tracked on Google Earth. You can also send out an ‘I’m ok’, ‘I need help’ or a custom message to anyone you choose, plus an emergency ‘SOS, I need rescued’ message to the authorities.

YOUR SPOT GPS SEEMS HANDIER THAN ANY OTHER DEVICE. IS SUCH A THING AFFORDABLE? AND WHERE COULD YOU GET ONE?

I ONLY NEED GUIDANCE TO THE KITCHEN AND BATHROOM BUT THERE ARE LOTS OF FOLKS WHO STILL WANDER THE REMAINING AMERICAN WILDERNESS WHO COULD SURLY USE ONE.
