That’s pretty much my load, although depending on rifle sometimes a heavier bullet. You don’t say what grade powder you’re using, only the brand. A coarser grade powder may give a more comfortable recoil.Went out to the shooting range yesterday with my 45 caliber and 90 grains of swiss pushing a 530 grain slug. .....What do you slug shooters do to reduce the kick that may be over and above a heavy coat and gun pad bearing in mind I cannot change the curved butt plate on the gun.
I’ve used one of the ‘wearable’ shoulder recoil pads for many years shooting long range muzzle loading. This is under a modern canvas target shooting jacket. All shooting is prone with sling for support (plus wrist rest behind 600 yards) and have no problem with shoulder discomfort. Even with the wrist rest the sling helps maintain good, solid and consistent shoulder contact, eliminating any ‘punch’ from the rifle if you’ve relaxed your hold a bit.
