Not shooting practice but cleaning practice. I have this here .44 CVA Repro, that I haven't shot or cleaned in a couple years.

Since I didn't have anything else to do this morning, I decided to give it a good cleaning. I mean stripping it completely down. It only took me 3 tries to get it back together properly, so I'm thinking I might have to practice the cleaning/reassembly business a little more frequently. Of course, that also means I should shoot it more. :D

What problems did you have, Gunny Gene? They are actually pretty straight-forward. I think the only two possible tricky areas are the hand insertion into the hand channel (while attached to the hammer of course)and making sure the trigger/bolt spring lays on the little trigger ledge where it belongs.

I got it figured out, so I'm not gonna confess the details of my dumbassery.;)

I just noticed you got a couple notches on those grips also. Wouldn't be a couple of 2nd Lieutenants would it?

When we had fight nights we could challenge the 2nd Lt to a Boxing match. Now that was fun beating them in the ring in front of 1000 troops. As I was Military Police we were extremely well trained in the art of fighting. They never came back for a second time.

I found a pair of Mike Beliveau U-tube videos that show the disassembly and cleaning of Colt cap and ball revolvers, including the right screwdriver sizes. I followed them in cleaning my dragoon, made it downright easy. Go to to see the first.

Well i never had a boxing match with an officer but our football team at Kaneohe Bay played other bases and gave a chance for a good shot now and then at one.
