What is everyone opinion of Remington Caps.

I have used Remington Caps for two decades with no issues. I can't claim they are 100%, but I never had a chronic issue or anything. I mostly used triple seven in my cappers, though some pyrodex too, and real black and it all worked.

I did ALWAYS pop a couple of caps before loading a clean gun to make sure I had a dry and clear fire channel. When you pop a cap, just point the muzzle close to a leaf on the ground or a blade of grass and make sure it moves when the cap goes off. This lets you know it's clear from nipple to muzzle.

Hang fires can happen with substitute powders that would not occur with actual black powder. When I shoot a percussion I use black powder plus I clean the nipple, drum and powder chamber with a pipe cleaner. This is another reason I protect the bore with Barricade. Barricade isn't an "oil" precisely, but dries out in the bore leaving a protective film.

Haven't had a hangfire yet, but I've got a sticky trigger I need to work on. More than a few times I've gone through my 10-count and squeezed figuring the trigger wasn't budging only to have it go off just as I was about to let go. Since my mind was going that way, my head has already shifted and I'm off target.

CCI Primers are my go to ignition source. I've always swabbed my bore with a dry patch and then pop no less than two caps. Well, always since that one time I didn't. Still hit the buck but not where I was aiming. Same thing as you had happen, a slight hang fire caused it to hit forward instead of the chest. Thankfully it was fatal and I saw the 8 pointer fall in the valley. Lesson learned.

If you’re near an Outdoor World/ Bass Pro Shop, they should have real bp..

I’ve bought some at the one in Nashville TN.

It will not be on the shelf, you have too talk too the Gun Department Manager or the Store Manager and tell them you want real bp..

Always check the hole in the nipple after popping a cap or two before loading, sometimes the caps will leave some residue inside the hole..

Remington caps.... I’ve used them in the past without any issues...

I prefer CCI’s ....

As too the follow through question , I try too hold on target at least until the count of three...
Then keep the gun pointed in a safe direction until it’s cleared.

Remingtonman,
If you will finish filling out your profile so we can see where you are, maybe one of the regulars here could meet up with you and help you resolve your issue. There are a lot of good folks here who are willing (eager) to help.

Looks like he’s in Iowa..... he could be burried in the snow by now..

Maybe Fleener can point him in the right direction..

If you buy from the box jobs, make sure you take plenty of cash. You will pay 30-60% more than mail order, plus tax.

Yea I know, I buy by the case most of the time myself.

I picked up a couple pounds of fg just too try... $22 a pound plus tax 0 hazmat.

And I was already there...this was a couple years ago.

But mail order is the way too go if your not in an area where you can buy it locally.

Yup, hard to find locally.
I have been buying at PVI. Good folks there. If you keep an eye on the specials you can catch the free shipping/free hazmat specials on a slightly bigger order. When I see those, I stock up or get some others in on a group buy.

I've always been a "pop two caps" in the barrel before loading, club.

As far as what I look to harvest, I figure to take what's "put in front of me" with some exceptions. Has to be at least four points, or a large doe. Where I hunt there is normally one very large mature buck of 6+ points, and then maybe a four pointer plus a couple of immature bucks...I leave the patriarch alone as he or his successor seem to like to keep the "harem" on the property where I hunt. (I doubt it's the same dominant mature buck on the property for the past dozen years...) I also don't shoot the spikes, or the spikes with forked tips, nor do I shoot the yearlings or small doe. So far I've only taken three bucks off the property, and all the rest have been large, mature doe.
