For a test remove the mainspring and sear spring(optional) then set the hammer to full cock. Hold the lock nose down and slowly press the sear. The hammer should just drop of its own weight. If it moves backwards(upwards if the lock is nose down.) before dropping, the sear nose or notch angle is off. That wrong angle forces the sear nose to push the hammer back against the mainspring before releasing. Lightening the sear spring will help but you still have to overcome the mainspring tension.
Another test would be to remove the sear spring and VERY CAREFULLY bring the lock to full cock and snap the lock with the frizzen closed, of course, to see what sear pressure without the spring is required to release the sear.
Or you could just send it back, pay them, and never learn anything.
