I am downsizing and have two barrels for my Thompson Center Renegade .50 caliber percussion rifle. One barrel came with the rifle, a 26" with 1:48 twist. The other is a 30" barrel made by Thompson Center with 1:66 twist that I bought for shooting round lead balls. What would/should the 1:66 twist barrel bring if I sell it? I have the factory box for the 1:66 barrel. I can't find the 1:66 barrel for sale anywhere, Ebay, etc., to get an idea of what it's worth.

I just shoot paper targets. As good as the Investarms Hawken I just picked up shoots, I may unload the Thompson Renegade once I sell off the 1:66 barrel.

I tell you what ive spent. here on the forumn ive bought 2 renegade barrels bought a 5 serial number .50 cal great shape for 125.00 plus shipping. I bought a .54 in immaculate shape for 175.00 plus shipping. I bought a .54 long barrel 1-66 for the renegade from gun broker was told it was flawless 190 plus shipping. got the barrel it wouldent even mount to my renegade the hook that goes in the patent breach was way to wide and long. I finally realized it had to be the wrong breach blug. had pitting down the bore. tried to work it out with the fello he blocked me blocked my emails after a month I let it go lessons learned. tc stuff is going up by the day. its feast or famine on ebay it boils down to how bad a people needs it or wants it

yes sir and do something most of the online sellers don't do. take a picture of your bore with bore light in it several different angles. I have no problem paying a premium price if its in the condition stated.

I had a similar transaction as yours but when I showed the seller the pictures taken by my borescope she was apologetic and offered a refund. I accepted and she asked me to destroy the barrel or use it for a tomato stake. I didn’t do either but I sent her a 20 because I felt badly about the whole thing, nobody wins... It’s still out in the shop somewhere. I may turn it into a shotgun someday. Or a tomato stake.

Send it off to Bobby Hoyt for a re-bore to a caliber you might want. bobby does great work, and his re-bored barrels shoot great.

Here's a thought, If you are thinking you would like to sell the rifle why not just offer it as a package?
Might be quite a few out there that would like to have both together...

I have one that he did, a 15/16” tc barrel bored and rifled round bottom round ball twist .54. Yes, it’s a shooter.

I will definitely take pictures of the 1:66 barrel. I will have to come up with a bore light that will drop inside the barrel. The bore is shiny and the bluing looks great.

I hear what some people are saying about the description not fitting what they purchased. I tend to lean the other way. If something looks like new, I'll describe it as excellent. If it's excellent, I'll describe it as very good. You only get one trip through this life and one chance to do things right.

I have been searching the internet for sale prices and rarely see these barrels for sale.

Bought one of the longer 1-66 50 caliber TC barrels about a year and a half ago for $150 delivered off another forum. Not disappointed, it’s proven to be more accurate than I am.

Don’t see the ‘value’ in having Mr Hoyt or someone else reboring a serviceable TC barrel unless there is something unique about it. It has been a couple years, but believe Bobby is charging $125 plus $15 shipping ($140) for a rifling rebore. Figure $15 to get it to him and you are at $155. If you can get $150 or more for the barrel you have as is, I would sell it and find a sewer pipe to have rebored. Have picked a few up for less than $50, you just have to look for them.

I’m sure others will have different opinions.

ive bought a few rifles with barrels not up to my liking that's how I have a couple .58 renegades, ive still got another .54 im trying to decide what to do with. id love a .62 rifled

Very nice complete Renegades can still be had for 200 bucks +/- a bit if yer patient so, figgerin’ the barrel to be roughly half the gun, 100 to 125 would be about right for a nice one.

As you say, the TC Roundball barrels don’t come along every day so, I would value those about the same as the Green Mountain drop-ins at 250 or so.

My opinion and yer welcome to it.

I can tell you what they did cost new from Fox Ridge Outfitters as I bought a 50 and a 54 in the 1:66 twist barrel. They were $180, the 54 was bought a year after the Thompson Center fire. The price you will get out of it now, will depend on the demand for the 50cal barrel. I would think $150 would be with in reason, if it is in good condition. Just my opinion. DANNY

yes sir that is what I was paid also. I always wanted a big boar . 58 now I got 2 renegade .58 1 with a ball twist 1-66 and 1 with 1-32 twist for the maxi conicals
