I am looking for a long gun storage Cabinet/safe that is tall enough to store 4-5 muzzleloaders. I have a large safe for my other rifles but it’s just not tall enough for my muzzleloaders. Any suggestions for a cabinet that I can purchase would be appreciated. Thank you.

RH, I had the same problem. The safe I had a removable shelf. I took the shelf out and put the rifles in diagonally instead of straight up and down. I think the longest I had was 52 inches long. If yours are extremely long it may not work. But you may not have to buy an extra tall safe to accommodate your guns just one that has the diagonal length.

None of my muzzle loaders fit in my cabinet so I just made a rack that holds the muzzle and installed it on a closet wall.

Try to find an old equipment locker. They are generally 72" in height, and with a little ingenuity, a method to secure and lock the locker can be done. I had an ear with a slot cut in it welded to the side of the locker so a long flat bar of steel could be inserted thru the handles on the front of the locker and into the slot of the ear. The bar had a hole drilled thru it to accommodate a padlock. It is not a safe by any means, but it will keep only the most determined thief from getting into it. Almost forgot to mention, I bolted the locker to the wall.

Roach Holder,
Were you ever able to find a LONG gun storage Cabinet / safe that was to your liking? I'm afraid I have the same problem now. I have long guns that are taller than my metal gun cabinet.

Hey Chiefbrown, without getting into big buck safes that take a lot of room, there are lockers I looked at like you find in industrial/sports/school setting but they were narrow and, though metal, seemed too easy to break into. If you google “metal lockers” (single tier lockers) there are several companies that sell them. I sort of put the search aside for now. Sorry.

This house was built in1950 as the Cold War was flaming up. It has a large fallout shelter down 6 steps from the basement floor and out under the lawn. The door from the basement is heavy metal. It would make a hell of a spot for an armory but I'd need to run a heavy duty dehumidifier 24/7. Which means I'd have to figure a way to get rid of the water from the dehumidifier. Maybe someday.

Literally two posts down is a post with suggestions. I read it, went to Amazon and saw dozens of options. Some plastic, some metal anywhere from $150 to $300. Not as secure as a proper safe but decent storage for a hideaway option.

One other GOOD option is to place the long muzzleloaders in whatever storage or ‘security’ cabinet you can, but without their locks. Then place/lock the locks in a very good safe or hide them. Sometimes ‘hidden in plain sight’ is a good option, e.g., false floor in the bottom of an ottoman, or behind drawers in a bureau, etc.
