Maine: More land than you will ever explore much less hunt. Non resident big game is $100. Use your muzzleloader all season if you want to, 4 weeks. Then a special mzl season follows for an extra $15, 1 week. Then, in my area, a second week of mzl for free. That $15 special for mzl is resident price, but I could look up expanded MZL non resident if you like.
Up here is an open state. They prefer you ask before hunting on private land, but if its not posted you are not denied access. And since the papermills shut down because nobody is sending letters (paper) or reading news (papers), there are miles of open country to hunt.
Boggles my mind when guys from the west explain how expensive leasing a plot can be.
Its almost free up here if you respect the land owners and don't trash it. A knock on the door to ask and you are in. Return with some backstrap medallions and a bottle of wine and you are welcomed back year after year.
Then off to NY where I pull a non res every year for $100 and two doe permits on top of that for $10 more. The key is to apply for doe in western NY where they are over running things. Non res are at the bottom of the lottery but I get them, every year.

Times sure have changed....I shot my first deer in Wyoming as a non resident when you just went into a sporting goods store and paid them 20 bucks....but this was a couple years ago ( about 1960 ).

I moved to Oregon for a little while hoping to get to do more hunting. I was able to put in for the draw and did not draw anything. and now I have moved back to Nevada so I'm back on the prowl for places to hunt that does not require a draw. So thank you all for your helpful information.

I still have not hunted big game with the Rifle I finished in 2017! Sin!!!

Indiana is the place! Non residents(like me, I live in Ohio) can buy a deer licence bundle for $295 which gives you all season access, Oct 1 to Jan 1, and allows for 2 doe, 1 buck, or 3 doe. Their firearm season allows MLs and is earlier(Nov 16-Dec1 ??) followed 2 weeks later by Muzzleloader season, which is 2 wks. And depending on the county, theres often a bonus antlerless firearms season for the last week of the year.

Take a look at Nebraska, you can buy your tag on the net, deer license and conservation stamp is $279 total. Lot's of public ground and the season is the whole month of December.
^^This. I killed my first deer ever on public land in Nebraska with a muzzleloader. It's a statewide tag and a late season, so the cold weather takes away a large amount of the competition on public land. Big and plentiful deer to be had if you are dressed appropriately for the conditions.

I've never hunted in adjacent Maryland, but I think you can harvest over 30 deer per yr with enough tags and their license fees are whatever your home state charges their residents for a hunting license. A significant issue, though, is finding a place to hunt. Western MD has public land where you can, but I don't know about the urban areas in the east. On the eastern shore, where there are lots of farms, I'd think some of them would let you hunt, but they may only lease the rights.

So, I live in Nevada and I must just have the worst luck when it comes to drawing tags in a lottery system. When I moved here everyone told me I would not have any trouble drawing Muzzleloader tags.

So Far I have only pulled one tag in 4 years, and it was for a unit with very limited access and very few animals. I had a Cow elk tag and only saw one bull elk. Go figure.

My question to all of you. Do your states offer over the counter muzzleloader tags for non residents? I'm Jonesin' really bad to try out my brand new (finished last fall hoping to go then but no tags drawn) .54 flintlock on something bigger than a jack rabbit!

Next question, if your state does offer tags, Is there public land to hunt?

I'm not asking for specifics, but if you want to share that's great, but a simple:

State
Yes they sell tags
and Yes there is public land or access to places to hunt.

I will do the research, but any help narrowing an area to hunt would be great!

Thanks Brothers and Sisters!!! :v
Your neighboring state of Idaho, has first come first served on Non Resident tags in most areas. For ML. hunting, one would have to buy the License, species specific tag and ML endorsement. 1/4th of the state is public land (12,000,000 acres of public land.). If you are a Bear hunter, some units have a reduced fee tag and second tag if so inclined. Nonresident Deer and Elk Quotas and Limits Licenses, Tags and Permits – Nonresident

That's because when you lease a plot of land here in the west, it is larger than Maine 😂. Public land in almost any state out here is larger than Maine😉....peace brother....

So........if public land out west is bigger than the state of Maine, why are you wasting money on a lease? Which one is it? Go shoot some deer on public land and use the money you save for more important things. :dunno:

Actually I do only hunt on public land. My point was even public land out here is bigger than the state of Maine....you get it....right? Actually We get Deer, Elk, Bear, and usually go to friends property in OK(again which has more public land than the state of Maine) for good ole pork chops.😇.

Crockett you have to life here for 12 months before you can purchase a resident license. There aren't any muzzleloader only seasons for anything but a couple of area's for antelope and those are by drawing only.
You can use a muzzle loader during any big game season, but with things as crowded as they are nowdays you have to go late in the season or get way back off of any roads to have any chance at a good hunt.

What state?

Come on down to Florida. Muzzleloading season starts real soon in some areas. No tags needed unless hunting in a WMA etc - even then, only some WMAs. If you can locate some private property, you just need your hunting license.

Also, here in Florida, pigs are legal all year on private land, and during regular hunting seasons on public.

Florida season dates for this year Season Dates and Species

Arkansas has a short ML season after the archery season opens and then another 3 days or so around Christmas. The law likes to keep things vague here, the motto is 'Come on vacation, leave on probation'. I don't even go in the woods during regular season any more. Sounds like Vietnam around here sometimes, they shoot first and determine species later. And don't get too close to a crackhead's distillery.

Maryland sells the "basic license" which is good for whole state in "deer/gun" season, but you're allowed to use a ML in that season..., and you must use the number from a state hunter safety course when you buy the license (any state's will do) unless you were once a resident of Maryland and hunted prior to 1976 OR if you are currently on active military duty in the state you can get a resident license (keep a copy of your orders on you to explain why you have a Maryland resident license with an out of state driver's license) . If you want to hunt in ML season you need to buy the extra stamp..., which is ONLINE, not over-the-counter. In most of the state if you buy the ML stamp, you can then shoot a buck in the "gun season" and in the ML season, and you can shoot up to 10 does between both seasons...for a total of 12 deer.

I highly recommend the Sika Deer if you can get to the Eastern Shore of the state. They are quite tasty.

Archery you need an archery stamp. (for those guys doing traditional stick-n-sting.)

@Loyalist Dave I'm interested in learning about Sika deer hunting on the Eastern Shore. They're such cool critters!
