I have this tc new Englander I had for some years as of now it junk barrel is completely gone the lock is broke only thing that is good is the stock and trigger I'm wondering could I possibly convert it to flintlock and a smaller caliber say a 36

everything works good but the hammer wont stay on the tumbler the bolt is strip out

Hoyt (or someone else) might be able to "freshen" the rifling and L&R's RPL-03-F flint lock should drop into the mortise with very little, if any, inletting. Still would need to get a flash hole installed, too. I haven't handled a NE in a number of years (25?) but, IIRC, it has a patent breech, which creates a whole new set of difficulties. Searching for a new or used barrel for a TC flintlock might be the most cost effective way to go. Good luck.

L&R’s replacement lock is not really a drop in. It will require wood removal from the mortise as well as possibly the wood surrounding the lock plate.
Then you would need to get the replacement flint barrel in any event as the TC uses the patent breech.
Better to seek out someone to quote the costs to repair what you have then compare from there.
Walk

To convert a TC New Englander from percussion to flint you will need a complete flint lock and a completee flint barrel. So, in the end all you’ll be usin’ is the stock/tang/trigger from the original gun.

It could be done but it's a complete waste of money(lots of money) and time.
Nit Wit

I suspect you would have around $500 in a lock and barrel change, L&R RPL lock and a GM drop in barrel, over $300 if you have Bobby Hoyt rebore your barrel.

You could sell your stock assembly on Ebay and use the proceeds as a downpayment on a gun that would be just what you are looking for. Your roached out barrel would probably bring $50 on ebay as well.

going to at least look at getting it reline or something the lock jus needs a tumbler could I get it made?

I used a Lyman tumbler in a TC lock. Had to file the square shank a bit to get the hammer on.

I talk to Bobby hoyt I am for sure fixing it so I start messing with the lock today see if I can find a new one or wat I need thanks
