Guys
I just bought a Ruger Old Army , everything seems pretty tight
It locks up nice
The trigger feels good

I’m going to try and post a picture

My question is - When I go to half cocked , the cylinder spins both ways
Freely , clockwise and counter clockwise , this is the only time it spins freely

I’ve taken the cylinder out , and the cylinder stop looks good
Works with the trigger like it should

So you guys with Old Armies - Is this right

Jack first gun parts has hand. Ebay has spring and plunger.
Might also contact Sturm Ruger.

Waste of time talking to Ruger about the ROA - I bought the last four rear s/s frame screws about ten years ago, and was told back then that there were positively NO spares any more for the ROA.

At half cock it is supposed to spin thats how you load it.
At rest or full cock things should be locked up tight. Some cylinder lock springs are funny
experiment with the screw tension that holds the spring in.

Ok Guys
I don’t have any parts yet ( ordered ) but I’m the kind of guy that has to
See what’s going on .
I took the gun apart , and it would seem as though someone
Has put the plunger and spring in backwards ,according to the diagram , the plunger was towards the frame side instead of the hand side, looks like they got tired of trying to mate the frame together.( I guess the spring kept kinking )and just shoved the spring side in first
In doing so they kinked a coil on the spring, and shoved it in .and in was binding
I straighten the spring , and made sure it would move smoothly,
I then put the gun back together , and how bizarre, it works like it should.

Thanks gentlemen for pointing me in the right direction

ROA frame parts are the same as old model Blackhawk

This is good to know
Thanks

Just as a point of reference, while not cap and ball, Ruger New Vaquero revolver cylinders spin freely in both directions with the gate open (loading position).
That "gate open" thing is a totally new design. That's why the "Old model Blackhawk" was mentioned. The old model works just like a Colt. The cylinder will only rotate one way when the hammer is at half cock if everything is working like it should.

Agree. Have old ‘three screw’ Black Hawk and have owned ROAs. Was just pointing out that there are six shooter ‘replicas’ with free spinning cylinders out there.
