[QUOTE="azmntman, My brother was a fat guy, I suggested he start running. He replied that the Good Lord gave him only a certain number of heart beats and wasn't wasting none of em on running![/QUOTE]

Your brother is a smart man. My wife walks 5 miles 3 or 4 times a week. Trys to get me to go with her, told her at my age I ain't putting no strain on my heart. When she walks I sit on the front porch have a few beers and smoke my cigar nice and slow. She comes back tired and I am nice and rested.

I recall a 104 year old I used to care for in a nursing home. He was mostly blind and deaf, unable to control his bowels or bladder. Had a bit of dementia, wheel chair bound and in pain from his arthritis. I bet he ate health all his life.

No donut holes ?

Those little nuggets don't last long. I tried to keep working them back into the dough to get more donuts as we were planning to send a plate of them to a friend (repayment for a venison mincemeat pie she provided).
Thus, there were not many "donut holes," and they are quite small with that size cutter, so, eating them is like eating popcorn and they are gone in a flash.

Fur an easy donut fix.....take a tube of the cold biscuts you buy from the store. Get ya some oil heated up in a cast iron skillet, pop that tube of biscuts open and throw them in the hot oil, once they are golden brown ya kin roll them around in a bowl of granulated sugar. Mighty tasty with a cup of coffee.

Doughnuts made with potato dough in this area are called Fastnachts. Light fluffy and scrumptious. We also have potato bread, potato cakes and potato candy. (The candy is kind of scarce anymore, mostly homemade)

A treat I truly miss having left Pennsylvania!

Fasnacht Day is an annual Pennsylvania Dutch celebration that falls on Shrove Tuesday, the day before Ash Wednesday. The word translates to "Fasting Night" in English. The tradition is to eat the very best foods, which are part of the German tradition, and lots of it, before the Lenten fast.
