I was born and raised upstate in Hudson Falls. Since I just retired from the Air Force we're thinking of moving back home so our kids can get to know my family better.

I know we have some New York members. Let's see who we've got. I'd like to meet some of y'all sometime!

Howdy Dawg! I, too, am retired USAF - E9, CMSgt 20 years ago this Nov, when Plattsburgh AFB was alive and well. I'm sure you'll find Ft Edward and the Glens Falls area probably not greatly changed.Neat changes and new things happening north of there at Ft. Ticonderoga and Crown Point, though. Last two years have seen major 250th F&I War anniversary events at Ti and this year is 400th Anniversary of Champlain's discovery of the lake and region lotsa celebratory events. Nowhere near as many traditional BP shoots/events as there probably were 20-25 yrs ago, though. we've a small traditional shooters/rondy group just south of here at Willsboro, next to L. Champlain that has access to a nice range/woods walk and camping area. Hope to run across a fellow USAF retiree and BP shooter, soon! Best of luck in your transition ---

I'm in the Finger Lakes area. The hunting, scenery, State Parks and overall topography here are very nice. The politics however are another matter. Everything is controlled by the New York City Liberals. There has been a movement underway for years to separate Upstate from the NYC.

If it has been a few years since you last lived in NY, might I suggest that you move to VT to be near family. If you truly decide to return to NY you would be one of the few as most people are leaving NY. Safe Act, Green Light law, lots of other issues with NYC dictating to everyone upstate what we can do and then stealing our resources to boot.
Heading to Saratoga on Sunday for 18th Century Days.
I live midway between Binghamton and Albany and really hope to convince my wife to move next year when I retire.
People who are retiring move out of NY not to NY!

Thank you for your service!

I'm just north of Hudson Falls; in Essex Co. Having lived in both Ti and Crown Pt. I was part of the Grand Encampments and events at both forts until 2009. The reenactment community in the Glensfalls area is present, but being out of the loop, I can't speak to how strong. There has been a diminished presence on Ti...no long having the Grand Encampment, however they still put on several events. Crown Pt has an event this weekend.

Welcome home, I live in Western Vermont, very close to Hudson Falls. Much friendlier to guns on this side of the border. But, some of the best shooting clubs are in Western NY.
Old Saratoga and Dunhams Bay are a few. I am a member of Whitehall F&G and highly recommend it.
I plan to join Old Saratoga in January, hope to see you around.
ps, I am also a Air Force Vet, 1971-74

I left NYS 17 years ago when things started to get stupid. I was born and raised in NYS loved the upstate area but not the way things were. My ex who thought it was her job to keep track of me made the decision to leave easier and a buyout by my employer to retire early didn't hurt either. Miss a lot of the good people there but not the politics, stupid laws and liberals running things. Would I move back nope in the Army met to many nice folks from out west where I am not and this is home now.

Foothills of the Adirondacks my whole life. Would like to move when I retire but the Mrs. wont. Keep an eye on the news feeds, one member of each party in the NY legislature got together last week to start a study hoping to figure out why people are leaving NYS. I'm sure the results will not have anything to do with politics or taxes. They'll probly blame each other and climate change.

Love Old Saratoga Muzzleloading Club. I’m in the N-Saa we have 3 shoots a year there.

I too used to shoot at Old Saratoga, never shot from inside, just the outside range. Its a great place.
Oh and, wife and I are also leaving NY. Governor took our state down. To bad, upstate NY is a great place.

Where are you going Henry2357?
Too many " far left" radicals here in Vermont! I have heard good things about SC.
Of course if "Bernie" gets elected there will be no escape, he will need to put up a fence to keep us here!
Good luck.
