Dog Lock flintlock "Punt" gun

I have an early 1800's dog lock "Punt' gun. 6 ft long, weighs 12 lbs. Want to know more about it. Was thinking of selling it sometime in the future. Been in our family since the early 60's.

Sorry, early 1700"s, not 1800's.

I do not think it is a punt gun more French militaria type more images plus the gauge size will help

I think that it is more likely to be a 'wall gun' - a 'fusil de mur'. Could be wrong though. It's pretty short for a punt gun.

Thanks for the replies so far. I always assumed it was a punt gun because of it's length. I have posted more pictures and this ID of the barrel is .790". Any additional photos of something specific, let me know.

Yes, that dog lock musket is a long range musket or wall gun. My unit has a Long Range Musket of the Long Land Pattern. It has a 1" bore and a 50" barrel. While ours is a smooth bore, it is not intended to use with small shot, just the 4 gauge round ball.

This is Snowden Slieghts punt gun the last time I saw and handled this gun was in a damp cellar in York {England} museum some years ago it was in a sorry state in the corner of the room with white washed walls and the barrel and the bore covered in falling white wash . just hope it was not left there

YAY!! And the winner is........................................................................post #4!!!!

Enclosed is a image from my collection of a 2 bore Bank Gun with a dog lock .A bank gun was used on the sea wall or the sand dunes along the sea front and with the incoming tide and the small waders feeding it was fired into the flock ,this type of gun was the largest to be fired from the shoulder.

Grenadier1758.....when you said this was a long range musket, how far would one of these shoot?

Trajectory was pretty much of a rainbow. Range was for minute of cannon crew about 700 yards. The 1" diameter ball had the weight to carry further. Ours has the pattern of a Land Pattern Musket so the only sight is the front sight, which is a small blade. These were considered the smallest caliber artillery. While they look like a shoulder fired arm, they have a yoke to be shot off a stand.
