At 71 I'm in the process of checking-off one of my "bucket list" items..... to build a flintlock rifle. Its a 50 Cal. Kibler Southern Colonial Rifle kit that was just delivered. Will post a picture once complete.
No plans to go hunting with it but will be looking to fire at a nearby range assuming I can locate an experienced muzzleload shooter in Southeast NH to walk me through the first few shots.
Looks like there's lots of great info. and experienced folks on this forum to learn from.

Greetings and welcome.
Where in southeast New Hampshire are you, roughly? Do you have a range to use?
There are plenty of shooters in New Hampshire that are on this forum, but, if you haven't found one to help you by the time you finish the rifle, I'll come up and give you some help.

Best regards,
Brokennock (Dave)

Hi Dave. I'm in the Seacoast area close to Exeter and do not have a range to use as of yet although there are several rod and gun clubs in the area the closest being in Newton and Exeter. Its nice of you to offer to come up. Since I'm new to this forum and as I get closer to finishing the rifle, I'll try to reach out to folks on this forum to try to find experienced shooters closer to this area.
The learning curve for me will be pretty steep initially but I'm looking forward to it. I just received Eric Bye's "Flintlocks...A Practical Guide For Their Use and Appreciation" which looks like a good resource. I'm sure I'll also learn a lot from reading the posts in this forum.
Thanks again for reaching-out to welcome me and for your kind offer.

Good morning Bruce L. I'm in the area and a member of the Newton club. Been shooting muzzle loaders for the past 55 years but mostly percussion rather then flint. Let me know when you're ready to drop the hammer and I'll be happy to share what I know and have you as a guest at the club. Steve

Thanks Steve. That would be terrific. I'll be in touch when I finish the kit.

The Ancient Ones of Maine are based in Canton 28 miles north of Lewiston. We have a great rendezvous site with ranges and woods walks. We also try to have a Geezer shoot every month. We also have primitive and modern campsites. If interested call me at(207) 897-5058
