Thanks Everyone for the forum
I’ve been a reloader for years

I just bought a Pietta 1858 steel frame new Army
And looking forward to some range time
This is my first BP revolver

Welcome aboard, Jim! You have one of the best production C&B revolvers made. I have to get my hands on another Remington pretty soon, been without a c&b for too long. You might also try a Remington Navy model in .36 Cal; the cylinder is long for the caliber and the chambers hold enough powder to give a really decent velocity. Stay in touch, your most humble servant, George.

Howdy and Welcome from Texas. You've come to the right place for revolver advice. I never shot one until 4 -5 months ago and these "experts" walked me through it. Ask away!

Gentlemen thanks for the invite

I took the Pietta 1858 out today
My Very first time with a C&B revolver

Loaded it up with Pyrodex 28 grains ( because I was nervous)
( Pyrodex is all Cabela’s had )
Hornady 454 ball
And number # 11 cci ( because that’s all Cabela’s had )

Well the wife noticed when I got back , that I still had my fingers and eyes
Everything went well
I had a blast , I’m hooked

The cci caps had to be pinched to fit , not too much of a problem
I noticed after I fired the the pistol though , that the caps were fragmented
In pieces , is that because they were 11’s , or is this normal

Thanks guys

That's probably the one piece of advice I strayed from. I used .451 lead balls instead of .454s. The store was out of the 454s and I got impatient and brought home the .451s. Gun still shot fairly well and I got the lead ring shaved in the loading. Did I do wrong?
