Looks like everyone is enjoying themselves and the others company.

One of the things I think about when I'm in places like that is, those mountains haven't changed much if at all since the days of the Mountain Men.
What I'm looking at is exactly what they would have seen if they were standing where I'm standing.
The trees look the same. The brush look the same. The birds and other critters look the same.
Makes me wonder, what were they thinking as they stood there?

Just a heads up!

The Whittington Center is currently in talks about having a FALL rendezvous in October! It will not be in coal canyon due to hunts and the large amount of elk in that area, but the event person in charge already found a new spot for this fall rendezvous.

Talks of allowing everyone in, including campers, traders, free of charge! They want to get a big crowd in there for us and hope that the free of charge, will bring in more folks, especially new folks.

This is still in the talks right now, but it really seems like it may happen.

Well that sounds good!!!!! Thanks for heads up!!!

I was there on Tuesday with my boys, We are not dressed proper because they have outgrown their duds (except for youngest, he gets hand-me-downs) I just happened to be down in NM visiting when I realized that the Rendezvous was going on, so we went out there for the day. We had our Hawks and knives because that's kind of a tradition for us when I go down and visit. My number two boy is really interested in getting more involved. He is 16. I am pulling together the parts to make him a good rifle.

Please keep us posted so I can let him know! he would love to go!!

2012 was the last time I was out there! I really miss it!!

Those pic's sure bring back some memories. I lived close to there (Springer) for some time, back in the later 60's and sure loved the area. I still stop by the Whittington Center at least once a year as I drive through that area. I would love to attend a rendezvous there, but I'm about too old to go through all the stuff involved anymore. Thanks for all the great pictures !

Living in that manner in the winter in that location might change some folk's mind on living primitive. It can sure get cold there in the wintertime.

Ya you are right, but would not have to put up with all the BS of todays life problums.
So true, however the “BS of todays life problems” is way easier, simpler and less stressful than slowly starving, freezing or watching a loved one die from a simple disease or infection.
Them “good ol’days” wern’t so good! Romance and reality.

Walkingeagle is right. If you simply didn't wash occasionally, you could be a danger to yourself. Reminds me of the old coot on Grizzley Adams on the episode when he said he got a bath once a year "whether he needed it or not!" lol. Of course, folks back then didn't know how much healthier and long-lived people would be in the future. I dare say that, given the choice, they might choose to stay right there and live to the ripe old age of forty. Sometimes I wonder if I would have preferred that, especially when I'm trying to stand up using these ol' knees! I can think of one, maybe two infections I've had that probably would have killed me back then.

If a guy wanted to live the style of the old days, that area would be a good one. It's not far from the Philmont scout ranch and Miami Lake, etc... good area for keeping yourself fed. Philmont has all kinds of game on it....lots of locals would love to be able to hunt that area.
