Tired of real cruddy, short, wiggly shooting benches, so my brother and I set out to build our own permanent shooting bench, built to our size.

Lots of folks you see on the range are always hunched over, rear ends sticking out like its for sale, necks bent back to compensate for their poor shooting form.

We settled on a height of 37 1/2" and if we need to adjust, we have an adjustable chair and front shooting rest. Keep in mind, all of us that will use it are in the 6'0 and 6'4 range. I had my neck repaired last year and so I have to shoot with my back straight and just a little tiny bit of a forward lean.

I'm not going to post the step by step process unless I get some requests for it, but its a great way to build yourself a solid shooting bench built to your body size and shooting form.

A cement pad was mandatory as we get a lot of mud. We'll back fill it with gravel AFTER, we put a roof over it. Its not a done deal yet until the roof is on :D

Later we acid washed the entire bench and platform and applied an epoxy seal.

Total cost with cement, cinder blocks, epoxy, rebar and wood was just a little over $360.

If you don't have a skid steer to lift the top, 4 or 5 big strong guys can lift the top onto the legs.

I'm jealous....my benches end up with you in all kinds of strange situations with different guns....and chiggers crawling up your legs while you are shooting. At least you don't have to fight the chiggers too !

Very nice bench.

The benches at our club are similar in shape but theyre made of wood. 4X4 frames with 3/4 inch tops. They have a couple different height stools that are not part of the bench so you can find one that fits your comfort level.

I too do not like to shoot hunched over so I pick a high stool and bring extra sand bags to bring the height up to where I like it.

I also wanted a solid shooting bench ...
Your concrete bench is nice . A guy gave me a piece of 1 inch plate steel ,
6x6 box beam, 8 inch channel, and I had an old tractor seat ....

All material is currently sitting in the back of the truck. Just need some time to punch some holes in the ground, cement the 4x4s and start building the frame around it.

Then you can cut a piece of carpet for the top. you can roll it up and keep it inside a pvc pipe mounted to frame work. Two things I hate besides wobbly benches are benches that are a 150 degrees from sitting in the sun so I burn my arm, or gritty rough benches that scratch guns, contaminate equipment and give my arm road rash.

Nice looking bench so far. :thumbs up:

A cheap carpet runner works if you need a portable solution but I like the custom fit carpet idea for a permanent bench. Carpet stores always have left overs for a good price.
