Why does it take so long to get a kit from them ??? goin on 17 -18 weeks now...they told me 4 to 12...getting impatient...

Good question. When I ordered my kit from them I learned their sources for wood blanks and barrels are the culprits. Neither seems to stock inventory. Meaning the customer must wait. I had to compromise on both my stock and barrel of choice or the wait would have been months.

Well, since there is so small of a demand for different types of barrels and stocks, it just isn't worthwhile to have huge inventories on hand, for business economics. So folks like the Chambers and we have to wait until suppliers make a run of the barrels or stocks we want. Of course we could get such items faster, if we wanted to pay a LOT more for having them made when we order them.

I understand the frustration.

In some cases it might work to ask them what they have on hand.

A kit can be held up by most any component.

Like Rich said, regardless of who you're dealing with...you can definitely reduce or even eliminate the wait time if you verify in advance that all parts are in stock, ready to ship. Of course, if "what's available right now" becomes your criteria..you might have to be willing to accept a different kit than what you originally wanted...but you'll get it FAST..!! :)
When I ordered my first "built-from-scratch" rifle from a builder I got the same education about parts availability, and I learned to relax. It takes what it takes. Fact is, in this world of traditional firearms given the incredible variety of choices that a customer might make, there isn't anyone who can guarantee having every part for every choice that any customer might make at any moment.
As far as the Chambers family business...you might find other folks as good to deal with,(there are a lot of great people in the world of traditional firearms) but you'll never find better.

been there n done that every couple weeks. one time ,no barrels ,, next time no stock..guess ill just have to build for 2020 season.. will not settle for anything but what I ordered..they offered a smoothbore because they had the parts but I don't want that..i want what I ordered because that's what I want..i guess ill talk to them at Dixons show here in pa, at end of month.. hopefully get something done..

Most of the delays do seem to be the wood or barrels - especially the barrels. The barrel makers seem to do a production run of each profile at one time. So it could be as little as 30 days - or much longer.
I ordered a 1710 Dutch Fowler barrel from TOTW. This profile is only made by Coleraine, and is the only barrel I could use in a pre-carve from TRS. At the time, the barrel was out of stock and took one full year for me to receive it. The rest of the Kit just sat for a year waiting for the barrel.
So yes, it can be frustrating at times.
Come to think about it, I have two pistol barrels on order from Charles Burton. But he mentioned up front it would be 6 months. And it's been just 6 months next week. LOL So I better contact him with the specs and see where I am in the pecking order.
Sometimes you just have to be more patient than you first anticipate.

Any time we deal with specialist craftsmen, of any sort, you must realize they work on a different "plane" as it were, regarding custom work, suppliers, etc. Chambers has a fine
reputation, as I understand, and our shared interest in niche 'hobbies' places us apart from the hectic, "buy it now!" world of modern commerce. Be patient, all will work out! We get too expectant of the "delivery in two days!" computer world.
