I would like to blacken the brass on my muzzleloader to make it look like iron . What would be the best way to do this

I've had excellent results with Birchwood Casey's, you guessed it, "Brass Black." Takes a little experimenting and seems easier to work with when diluted with water.

Any abrasive will cut through the corrosion and brighten it. 4-0 steel wool, sandpaper. The liquid abrasives are somewhat messy to use.

I got this finish with birch wood Casey super blue. Each coat darkens it more. Apply n let sit for a few minutes. Then I washed in dawn soapy water to neutralize.
One thing, the brass on this gun had some patina. I had to shine/clean it first with BC blue n rust remover (which I think is just acetone) to get even finish. If A piece wasn’t looking good I’d go back n strip it to shiney brass n start over.

Definitely wanna use these products outside IMO for fumes.

No. Some suggest wax etc but I want to stay away from shiney for hunting. I shoot almost daily and the gun goes in and out of case a lot with little wear/shine so far
