I just recently received notice on the passing of Nebraska native & long time muzzleloader Don Strinz. I met him in the 70's and he was very active in the Nebraska Muzzleloading Rifle Association. Don was a true muzzleloader from the word go. His longtime business of Lease a Lodge was known all over. If you needed a primitive camp, Don was the guy to see.
He passed on April 12, 2019.
May God rest his soul!

I never met him. But one look at that face and you know that there were countless stories to be told. I count this as my loss.

Grieve well for your friend.

Well damn... That is sad news.
I met Don a few times here in Kansas and he was a heck of a nice guy and fun to camp with.
And,yes, he had countless stories to tell...

I feel bad that I'm so late hearing of Don's passing. First met him in the mid-80s at the Lewis and Clark Festival in Onawa, Iowa. I finally decided to be a participant rather than just a "pilgrim" and bought a pyramid from him in 1991 - drove from Sioux City to his shop in Milford, NE to pick it up. Spent many a night sitting around the campfire with Don and other friends sharing meals, adult beverages and, of course, swapping lies. Ran into him at several other rendezvous over the years including Pomme de Terre near Hermitage, MO. He always told great stories and was good to share a campfire with. We were not close friends but I still considered him one. He will be missed.

Condolences to his family and his many, many friends.

Been out of touch for awhile and found out about don today. I sold his lodges for a few years. Don gatto and I did a some bartering with don.
Sorry to hear he s passed a really good guy. Another passing is Dennis McCall. I've known him for 50 years. A great knife and rifle builder.

I have a lot of fond memories of Don growing up going to the Red, White and Blue every Memorial Day. I was just a boy so I can't say I ever got to know him too well but my dad sure did. According to his stories, Don used to keep a cooler full of hot beer (I think it was PBR) at his camp that he'd offer to people as a prank (he was full of good ones). Most people would drink it, then he'd offer them a second one and let out his signature roaring laugh when they inevitably turned it down. Until he tried to get my dad and he just said sure and drank that one too. One after another and he never complained. Finally he asked, "What the hell's wrong with you? Can't you tell it's hot?" My dad replied, "Not my first time drinking hot beer" and that just cracked him up. He really was a character, wish I would have gotten to know him better as an adult but alas, I didn't get into the hobby until more recently and I hadn't seen him for years when he passed. Not the kind of guy you ever forget though. He was a great man and of course his work was second to none. A Strinz tent is still a highly sought after item around here. He left behind one heck of a legacy and was a friend to many, no doubt about it.
