Someone recently was able to turn a rust bucket flintlock barrel into a potential shooter by using Evaporust.
Just wanted to share his before and after photos to show that it really does work.

Simply Google Evaporust and you should see many vendors & stores that sell it.
Or Google Evaporust and the name of a local chain store.
Some ship it to your local store while others have it in stock depending on the size of the container.
Some will only ship it to your house for a fee while others will ship it to the local store for free.

Google lists it as being sold by Home Depot, Tractor Supply Co., Advanced Auto Parts, Amazon, Walmart, True Value, Ace Hardware, Harbor Freight among others.
It comes in a quart size to gallons......just not all sizes are available everywhere.
Check the store's website for availability, and check several for the best price.

Just be careful not to get any on the bluing. This is what I use to remove bluing when rebluing a rifle.
For cleaning rusty bore I chuck a brass brush on a ramrod then chuck ramrod in cordless drill. Soak brush with kroil oil and proceed to brush out the rust. Takes out the elbow grease and shines even the rustyist barrel up in no time.

One of the good things about using Evaporust is it won't harm the steel it's working on.

Rust removers like Naval Jelly contain a lot of phosphoric acid and a small amount of sulfuric acid. While these are great at removing rust, both acids will also attack the good steel they are applied to. That's why applying Naval Jelly to a gun barrel and leaving it on for a long time will cause the surface of the steel to have a "frosted" look.
While this frosted look is something some people like to see on the outside of their barrels, it is not something that anyone would ever want in their barrels bore.

Evaporust contains no acids, or for that matter, anything else that is harmful to man or barrel (except as noted, it will remove browning and bluing). :)

PITTING OR JUST "PITS ARE AN ABSENCE. IT IS HARD TO ELIMINATE AN ABSENCE. YOU MIGHT FILL THEM IN WITH SOMETHING, I KNOW NOT WHAT, BUT THERE IS NOTHING THAT WILL "WIPE THEM AWAY"/IF THEY ARE NOT TOO MANY AND THEY ARE FAR ENOUGH APART THEY CAN OFTEN BE IGNOREED BUT PITS WILL TEND TO GROW AND IN TIME RUIN THE METAL THE GUN BARREL ID MADE

THINK OF A PIT IN YOUR RIFLE BARREL AS A BIT LIKE A POT HOLE IN YOUR DRIVEWAY.NOTHING WILL WIPE IT AWAY. YOU CAN FILL IT IN BUT IN TIME IT WILL PROBABLY GROW.

DUTCH SCHOULTZ

Will it remove "pitting" as well?

Like Dr5x said, pitting is created when material has rusted away. Nothing short of plating or some other method of adding material can fix it.

I mentioned the somewhat frosted look that Naval Jelly produces and the cylinder on my Walker shows this pretty well.

I found that the original Walker pistols cylinders were left in the white so I removed the bluing from mine using Naval Jelly.
I didn't leave it on too long so the frosting isn't very noticeable but when the cylinder was blue, it was quite shiny.

I used Evapo-Rust to remove the bluing on the cylinder of my Uberti Walker, unfired at the time, and it came out as highly polished steel, no etching or anything. My first test was on a 1 1/2" pipe tap that had been my grandfathers. Most of it was bright "as new" but one area was rusted and pitted to some depth. Evapo-Rust removed all the rust with no harm to the good areas and upon examining the pits with magnification I could find no evidence of rust remaining, indeed the bottom of the pits were bright.

I have found that soaking parts in white vinegar will remove blueing as well color case hardening. I think it's easier to use vinegar than anything else especially any chemical that would affect the metal itself. Vinegar does not affect the metal; I just rinsed it in hot water then oiled the bare metal parts.

whughett was given this original Remington 1858 twenty years ago and the cylinder was rust welded to the base pin.
After soaking it, he locked the frame in a vice and tried turning the cylinder with a pipe wrench.
When it first moved a tiny bit, he stopped and returned the piece to the Evapo-rust bath.
The next day he tried again, it started moving freely and he was able to pull the base pin.
