Friends, our 2nd Amendment rights are always under attack and the NRA has been a constant for decades in helping fight that fight.
We have partnered with the NRA to offer you a discount on membership and Muzzleloading Forum gets a small percentage too of each membership, so you are supporting both the NRA and us.
I know nothing about gun building but am curious to know if it is possible to convert a 45 cal TC Cherokee to flintlock. I have never owned a flint lock and thought this would be a really cool little gun to have converted if possible.
I can’t speak to the Cherokee specifically but if it was also made in a flint model it usually can be switched, you’ll have to research that aspect.
I converted a TVM from percussion to flint with no major issues.
While anything is "possible" with enough money and determination, the T/C Cherokee was purpose-built as a percussion gun with a patent breech. To convert it to flintlock you would have to cut the breech plug and nipple bolster off and rethread the barrel for a new breech plug. The Cherokee also has a rather small lock so finding a flint lock with the right size for the lock mortice area on the stock would be a bit of a challenge. By the time you were finished you would have spent more than buying a new flint lock gun. Cherokee rifles are excellent guns and much sought after in their "unconverted' form. You could probably sell it for a good price and put that towards a proper-built flintlock rifle.
