Your command of English is far better than mine of Spanish.

Well done sir, you have a made a lovely pistola! Many times I have fancied the idea of making a wheelock but never took up the rasp to do it.

How does she shoot?

Well done mate, a nicely made wheelock pistol !! I also would like to know how it shoots

Cheers

Nice work. Question, it looks like you cut the groove for the band on the grip first, what did you use to cut it?

The grip, the band and the wooden pomel are 3 diffrent pieces. that is the secret!!! ;)

Thank you for your words!!!
Here you can see the lock working. Soon, I post the pistol shooting!!

Very nice. I knew and old BP gunsmith who built a custom wheelock and showed me how it worked. I wasn't shooting BP yet and didn't know what I was looking at or what questions to ask. I am afraid he is long gone now. He owned a shop in Granbury Tx if anyone here remembers him. His name was Doug Summers IIRC.

Where do you find iron pyrites to fire it with?

Hi Burl. These fire steels are much better than pyrite. Don't crumble. They are harder than pyrite, but still much softer than the wheel. They work great. And, you can now get them in square shape. By coincidence, they are just the right size diameter to fit in the jaws of the cock. Just cut of a piece about 3/4-1" long. One stick will last a long time. www.firesteel.com

Search on eBay for "iron pyrite" and you'll find all sorts. One caution: A lot of it is from China, and they tend to exaggerate the size of the pieces. If they say 12mm the pieces are probably 7-10mm. The Spanish stuff that looks shiny and smooth is for display and way too expensive. The rough Chinese pyrite sparks fine. You can find rough cubes and drilled cubic beads as well as polished shaped beads (but why use them?).

Would you consider building a custom smooth bore wheellock for a paying customer. I would be looking for something very similar to 32 guage you have photographed above. However, I need .75 inch caliber with a barrel legnth of at least 28 inches to comply with UK Shotgun rules. Would prefer 36 inch barrel length. Would you consider this? If so, how much?

DID YOU MAKE THAT WHEEL LOCK PISTOL?

THERE IS AN OUTFIT HERE, CALLED PIRATE FASHIONS THAT HAS A GERMAN STYLE WHEELOCK THEY MAKE WHICH THEY SELL FOR $1500 USD/
THEY HAVE A HECK OF A GUARANTEE IF ANYTHING GOES WRONG/ THEY SUGGEST NOT USING A PATCHED BALL, JUST A PAPER WAD ON TOP OF THE BALL TO KEEP IT FROM, HAVING THE BALL AND POSSIBLY THE POWDER RUNOUT.

THEY DON'T HAVE THE WHEEL SPIN AGAINST FLINT, THEY USE IRONPYRITES INSTEAD.. THE PROBLEMS WIH THE ORIGINALS IN THE OLD DAYS WAS THE ROTATING SPRINGS WERE SUBJECT TO BREAKAGE. ONE WOULD THINK MODERNMETAL PRACTICES WOULD HAVE SOVED THIS./
I WOULD LIKE TO SHOOT ONE A TIME OR TWO BUT THE $1500 USD IS A BIT HIGH FOR AN IDLE CURIOUSITY.
