I just heard that FED-X has a recent new policy to not accept any weapons for shipment, including antiques and swords. I'm assuming this is for overseas. Have not been able to confirm this yet. JFYI

What Mike said. USPS goes UPS or Fedex after it leaves the PO anyway.

I recently received a gun via FedEx. What I really liked was, I received a phone call from FedEx, automated, to let me know the day before that the package would be delivered the next day.

USPS tracking will tell you the same thing. My little county PO's mail carrier leaves a note and holds the rifle sized boxes at the PO until I pick it up. The carrier says the long box is too big for her car. I usually can watch the tracking and pick it up before she leaves a note.

Agree on the USPS advice. I use click-and-ship from my home. Easier and cheaper than driving to town and risking having to argue with some ignorant bureaucrat who thinks he is a know-it-all. I have used a hard plastic rifle case from Walmart that costs only $10.00. Cardboard boxes from the UPS store or U-Haul cost much more. The USPS on-line form asks nothing about firearms, only if you are shipping stuff that is dangerous, leaks, stinks, etc. I just put on porch and mail carrier picks up. Never a problem.

Hi Gene.

That's good to hear. As mentioned, I suspected that they were referring to overseas shipments.
For muzzle loaders I have always used USPS. I never get any hassles.
