Hi Folks,

This is my first post so hang with me for a minute.

I need some help tracking down the manufacturer of a Colt Paterson replica. It has both the Italian stamps but no date stamp that we can find. Proof stamps are on the cylinder and right side of the frame. Underside of barrel is the “double diamond” I have seen mentioned in several posts. Who does that stamp belong to? Also on the underside of the barrel, as well as on the frame behind the trigger, is stamped 655. The cylinder has the stagecoach scene. A nine inch barrel if that is any help.

I don't remember what company used the "double diamond" logo but I do know that it was not Pietta or Uberti. The company dissappeared many years ago (1980s ?). I have 2 Spiller & Burrs made by them and I have no idea what other revolvers they made though from time to time a question about them will show up here on the forum.

I was a little late, I believe pluggednickel nailed it . Photos would be appreciated greatly.
I will try to get some in the next day or so. It is filthy. We found it at a yardsale in a box marked "Toy guns and stuff" with old cap guns and broken Nerf guns. $10 for the lot.

Wow, I believe you did good friend, looking forward to seeing it, have a Paterson myself and it’s one of my favorites in my collection. Welcome to the forum btw.

Record price for rare Colt found during clear-out

By Will Bennett, Art Sales Correspondent

12:01AM BST 25 Jul 2002

A rare Colt revolver found in an elderly woman's home when her possessions were being removed after she died fetched a record £222,250 at a Bonhams auction in London yesterday.

The 1840 Colt Paterson percussion revolver, which had been expected to fetch up to £120,000, sold for more than four times the value of the woman's terrace house in an unnamed town in south-west Scotland.

David Williams, Bonhams's arms consultant, recognised the beautifully engraved piece as one of only a handful of the Number 2 Belt Model Colt to have survived.

"It was amazing to see such a rare American revolver of this type come in for sale out of the blue," said Mr Williams.

Yesterday's price was the highest ever paid for any firearm in Europe. The Colt was bought by an anonymous bidder in the saleroom. How the woman acquired the revolver remains a mystery.

Sorry for the poor quality. This old hand dithers. Couldn't get a good shot of the Double diamonds at the base of the barrel.

These are the shots of the Colt paterson replica mentioned in the first of the thread.

Hi Dave. I have had 2 other people go over this wheel gun with a magnifying glass and we can't find a date stamp. Maybe when I disassemble to clean it.
