Another "modern" trinket in a traditional forum. Also, powder can be set off by static electricity, perfect combination with vinyl tubing. I would retire those and move on.

You do realize every major name in reloading makes a reloader for muzzleloaders made of plastic don’t you, I don’t think they would if they regularly exploded from static electricity, I personally use a hollow antler myself though.

I used to make speed loaders out of penny rolls, stapled at both ends once filled. I gave up on them when I made my powder horn. I found out that for deer hunting, even using a speed loader, you don't get a second shot......Now for my smooth bore I still use speed loaders only because I don't feel like fumbling with a powder horn in the middle of a pheasant field.

There are many different types of plastic. Some are anti-static and some can produce enough static electricity to knock you on your butt. PVC pipe is a good example of such.

On the contrary, BP absolutely can be ignited by static electricity using such a device as the one mentioned in the post. Doesn't just require heat, I've seen it first hand and the results were less than steller. Thankfully the individual didn't loose any fingers. These vinyl loaders can absolutely generate enough energy while bouncing around in a bag or loose clothing to go boom.

Prime example of needing to understand what one is doing. BP without a doubt is a volatile substance and it's properties should be understood and respected before storing it in just any container.

I’d like to see some hard evidence of this actually happening, this is one of those subjects that have beaten to death and pops up now and then, an urban legend of sorts I suppose, if indeed you witnessed this firsthand I can’t help but believe there were other factors involved in the incident.

After a days unsuccessful hunt with a fellow friend we decided to make some smoke for fun. Several shots into it he brought one of these homemade tubes to the muzzle from the pocket and it went off. No sparks were present and after process of elimination of the event it was evident multiple shots had likely generated some sort of static buildup coupled with them being carried in the pocket. The event must have been a one in a million scenario were all variables were aligned, luckily it was only a light load and no injury resulted besides a bruised ego. Personally my powder is carried in nothing beside the original container, horn or as you mentioned a horn charger, which I carry as well when loading and is much more interesting and welcome here than a modern material loader.

Not trying to be negative but the modern junk contained within the traditional forum gets annoying and old...

I can see where a diehard HC person would get tired of seeing non HC accoutrements on the forum but I just see them as someone getting into the hobby and starting to explore different options for doing this or that, the OPs next project may very well be a horn or antler measure, I started with a cva brass dispenser and measure, I use a powder horn and antler measure now, weather it fits into a certain HC category I have no idea, nor do I care to research it, I’m happy with it and that’s all that matters to me actually, I will say that calling someone’s project junk is doing nothing to sway someone towards being more HC, constructive criticism is one thing, outright insults are not very constructive at all.

Used to be sticky here somewhere with 4, 567, 980 posts on static = boom. I too would like to see HARD EVIDENCE that it will set off BP. I would think it would myself but IIRC it was after the death of 6 or seven beaten horses:horseback: that it will not?
