Been looking for an alternative to a big lodge for short stays so I ordered up an 8x10 tarp with loops not grommets for just a bit more than a really good drop cloth.
Easy up, easy down, efficient and period......it's all I need.

I like it.
I like simple camps, good for one without 2 hours of setup.
I set mine up as a diamond but I think I'm gonna go like you have, only thing I may tie some triangle pcs to the ends to stop the breez.
nice!

I've often thought a shelter like that would be really nice with some detachable side shields. That darn wind and rain always finds a way.

Should work just fine. I use a 7x7 diamond oil cloth when its just me and it's all I need. Makes me bring less stuff too.

You're welcome to come check out an Ohio Flintlock and buckskin camp any time.

Never did one like that. I want, in a tent, PROTECTION from the insects (spiders) and reptiles (snakes) and certainly would be unhappy if I got wet.

However, I do understnad one stays warm by staying dry and a good bedroll outdoors would be fine. I'm older now and may give it a shot this summer? Pre-spray the area with raid and be too high for rattlers.
