Lifelong Maryland shooter here, along with all the other vices like reloading, casting and haunting gun shows etc. Love and collect regular firearms and air guns (Even the Bug-a-Salt) Recently took up black powder. Started with an entry level pair of Colt style 1851 Navy revolvers, enjoy the loading rituals and pace of shooting them, even cleaning. Just acquired an early production Lyman Deer Stalker flint lock with beautiful walnut furniture. Now in the process of searching for and buying what my wife refers to as the dreaded "Go With's" Of course I will be on the lookout for a Walker Colt next.

Welcome aboard! Wasn't Sawney Beane the Scottish blacksmith apprentice turned cannibal back in the day? He was quite the dickens from what I recall. Glad you are into Muzzleloading, you have found the best Forum for Traditional shooting, good luck! Geo.

Thanks for the welcome. Yes, Old Sawney was a hoot, have used the moniker since the dawn (54 kbps modem and phone line) of online gaming. Here's pics of the early production Deer Stalker. The walnut is real pretty. Picked it up at the Gettysburg Gun Show Saturday unfired with the box. It was tagged for $285 and I went back late to see if it was still there. Paid $255.

Your rifle looks new in the bore. Keep it that way by religiously cleaning your gun immediately after finishing your shooting for the day, 'shoot it today, clean it today' You got a decent price on a good gun, and it should last you a lifetime. Geo.

Thanks George,
Yes, I'm one of those old guys that now likes to shoot (and really enjoy) only as many that can be properly cleaned before turning in on the same day.

That big guy in that photo sort of demands a little respect. I wouldn't care to meet him in a dark alley. Anyhow Welcome from Texas!

Welcome and your wife has no idea how many " Go With's" is with this hobby.

Where about are you in the Democratic republic of Maryland.
Ah! Maryland , My Maryland. How far we've fallen. It's like the frog in the pot, most don't notice the water is getting hot until it's too late. I live in Raspeburg, it's a long block from the North East corner of Baltimore City. Still a very pleasant spot cut off from all the nearby ruckus. I still sleep year round on the porch and you can hear a pin drop. However, now that I've retired moving to Delaware is an immediate option.

Western Maryland here, If we move it will be south. Seems the further you go north of the mason Dixon line the worst the politics. Personally I would like to see the western counties break away and form its own state. But I think the whole country is going to **** with all the lame liberals and left wing crazies.

I went through your state 20 years ago. The Sharpsburg Battlefield was something. It gave me goosebumps like our Alamo does down here.I Loved the countryside but it had already started back then. You got some crazy people up there! Too close to Washington D.C.

Thanks for the welcome! We are following continuing events on the Texas border and shaking our heads ruefully. Here's my wanna be a cowboy look.

I often ponder how western Maryland feels about all the financial "Support" they provide to Baltimore City. Like dropping it down a rat hole.

Yes, there is a great wealth of history left to see around here, but come quick as the statues are coming down, along with renaming anything that "triggers" those with a mind to rewrite history. Here's my Great-Great Aunt Cornelia holding me. She was 96 at the time and a living witness to the Civil War. Wore the bonnet all her life. She ran away to hide in the cellar when the Army marched by her farm on the way to Pennsylvania.

Its really sad when "something" is happening and you cant do anything about it. That situation on tbe border with Mexico is a good example. Thank you for your concern.

That picture of your aunt. Kind of reminds one of Barbara Frithcie? Not sure of the spelling, the lady who shook her bony finger at Stonewall.

Spent a lot of time on and near Antietam as a boy my aunt and uncle farmed there, Most of those properties are now in the hands of the park service. Also as a federal living historian done programs for the park service as a Lt. with the 142nd Penna Regt. Very hallowed ground.
