Hey all got a question. Do those of you with the Traditions .50 Cal Kentucky Rifle shoot only round balls or do you shoot minnies/Conicals as well? And a follow up question, If you shoot minnies/connicals, do you cast em yourself and if so what mold are so using?

Bought a kit and before I build it I'd like to do as much research on what works best for shooting it. I already cast Minnies for my .58 Cal Enfield Repro (as well as the ability to cast for most of the calibers I shoot centerfire-wise) so I'd like to keep doing this if possible.

Round ball, .490, Lee mold, .015 thick patching. I use a Lyman mold, but the lee is just as good for a fraction of the money.
The Traditions Kentucky rifle has a 1/66 inch twist barrel. It likes round balls over conicals. You can shoot a conical but it won't be as accurate and recoil will be noticeably unpleasant compared to a round ball, especially with the Kentucky butt plate.
A round ball will give you great economy and accuracy, as well as enough killing power for deer sized game.

Lee R.E.A.L. Bullet moulds come in two weights. The lighter ones are nearly square with the bore and have worked very well for me over the years in roundball twist barrels.
