Picked this up today. Sidearm for my son to accompany his blackpowder rifle this next deer season.

Check your Deer regulations. Some North Eastern states have weird laws for muzzleloader only Deer seasons.

Definitely a great idea to know which laws one may run afoul of, drobs. We hunt and hike on private timberlands in northern California, some forays onto national forest lands. It is all quite remote and our interaction with LE and other hunters and miners is collegial and supportive, but rare .

Revolvers perform best with pure lead bullets, either the round ball or bullet configuration. The substitute bullets are harder and will be difficult to load in the revolver. You will need a separate loading press to prevent damage of the loading lever on the revolver.

I thought California hunting regulations prohibited hunting with lead.

Yeah, the carrying of a pistol while stalking or buck hunting is for general protection in emergencies. There are lots of bear where we hike the hills, and we regularly see at least two different "big cat" prints the last 5 or 6 years, so it makes sense when crawling around brushy slopes or wandering through logged areas where you might startle something big. Wish we had wild pig up this high. Lots of oaks and acorns for feed, but the winters are tough.

I started with a similar pistol, but the barrel was cut to 5.5”. I used it on fox squirrels, rabbits, grouse, pigeons and targets. It was my constant companion when I wasn’t in school until I bought a modern pistol, m29 when I was 16. What a great starter piece!

Personally, all though I like to hunt them and dearly love to eat them, I’m glad we don’t have hogs this high. They sure can raise hell with crops...
