I always enjoy seeing how other muzzleloading shooters have been grouping at different yardages. It should be a FORUM LAW :) that the person telling the story, mention of how many shots were in the group, and require the specifics of the gun, off-hand, etc.
I have friends all the time telling me of these fabulous groups only to find out they were two or three shot groups.

The best I can do with my 62 caliber Hawken flintlock is a four shot 5" group at 100 yards with sticks.

yes..... some guys with fabulous one hole groups are never seen at competitions, where they should clean up the awards.

you would eliminate part of the internet experts, cant do that.

sorry.. I will consider myself whipped with a wet noodle. Been a long and tiring week. I am on my second beer, think I need another.

Man this is true.
I don't really shoot groups any more. I just shoot steel using my sticks. Mine are not one hole but I do alright.

Dang, you guys just killed my thread.
Actually, you have a great idea. I have shot some really good 3 shot groups that went away with the next shot. I don't even try 100 yards with open sights anymore. If you are doing 5 inches with cross sticks I bet you could cut that a lot from a good bench. I call that good shooting.

Competition rules, every shot on a target counts. PERIOD !
If you can't shoot a group on a clean target it doesn't count.
I also don't consider 3 shots to be a group.
I don't ever remember shooting a 3 shot group in competition.

some are 10 shot relays.

I always shoot a group,
if there are holes are on paper, is considered a "group." ? ? ?

50 yards ..off hand...front sight only..62 cal Tulle Flintah....nobody said it was easy...

Last winter I could shoot all winter, driest in history. I'm getting tired of being snowbound this year, so here I am with the rest of you bloggers - justa wastin time until I can shoot groups again. I love making guns and shooting groups. To cold to do either.

Here's an interesting exercise to test your skills.

Take five identical targets and post one at the distance of choice . Fire five shots from your position of choice. Then post a second target precisely over the first and fire five more shots just as you did the first five with the precise same sight picture. Repeat until you have shot all five targets.

The first target posted is a true picture of your and your rifles potential under the shooting conditions you set for yourself.

Using five fresh target faces gives you a clear POA for each shot and you are less likely to be making sub conscious adjustments.

I won't be showing mine. Not fit for the internet.

Three shot competition target is the chunk match. Three shots, string measure on a X target, 60 yards. Open iron, over a rest or chunk. Scoring is total string measure added together, center X to each shot center. My best was 0.42 inches, average about 1.5-2.0 inches or so, normally. See, there are 3 shot competition matches.

I’ve been playing around with my smoothbore, with a bare ball load using .648 round ball’s.

I will be working my way out too the 50 yard mark the next time out.

I’m just getting started ...

The chunk matchs are traditionally 10 shots. ?
At least the ones I am aware of. ?
York, NMLRA, Bevel Bros, IBPF.
