Hi everyone, I'm brand new to muzzleloaders but not to firearms, having been hunting and shooting since I was a kid. Probably got the ML bug a couple years ago but didn't pull the trigger on it until last Tuesday when I put that money order in the mail for a used T/C Hawken 54 cal. Should receive my percussion rifle next week and I'm looking forward shooting it. Thanks in advance for all the information I'll be getting from this forum.

Welcome. Hopefully your ‘new’ TC Hawken was well cared for by the previous owner. I’ve been 3njoyi g mine for over forty years.

Yep DOUBLEDEUCE 1,
Purchased from a reputable seller with lots of photos that I studied for three days.
I will give it the eagle eye once it arrives and if it doesn't measure up to the sellers stated facts, then it's taking a return flight. I'm waiting patiently.

Mr. Gumboot,
Most importantly, check to see if there are any wide spots in the bore. That won't show on the outside. get aa reasonably snug fitting number of patches on the provided ram rod anklet it slowly slide down the barrel with only the weight of your arm propelling it. If it jumps an inch or two during its otherwise slow passage, that would mean there is a bulge in the barrel and it WILL NOT be any kind of accurate. repackage and send back. Nice photos do not show the condition of the bore and THAT is the most important part of your new rifle/

One of the leading reason someone might want to sell a rifle is because of a bilged barrel which are created by not properly seating a patched round ball or mini bulet on the powder before firing.
