Got a frizzen from Taylor and Company. Took some grinding and shaping to get it to fit.
Only caveat is that it is loose on the frizzen spring but still retains enough resistance to spark really well.

You should of called Thompson Center, I did last week and got one from them.
Also RMC oxyoke sell the Lyman frizzen all ready ground down.

Thanks Jim, yes I got one from rmc and it works good.
I rehardened the original it sparks and i will keep it on hand for a spare.
It seems the one from taylor and company throws the most sparks with a 99% ignition rate.
Different metal comp for each one perhaps? Did not know thompson still had parts.
Got to keep it sparkin....

At his point, perhaps a full after-market lock replacement is warranted? Might be the best over-all long-term option.

I got you....when I have a major failure like a tumbler then I will go that route.
Until then I try to keep it going....

I'm confused why you want to limp along with a poor lock, most especially since it is giving you problems?
This is an upgrade over the existing system. Unless you have a desire to keep the original lock, a drop-in replacement should be/is available and will improve the performance of the gun. Fix it once and forget it...

Just wondering why you didn’t just get a Lyman frizzen no grinding just put on the gun and go.I have replaced my T/C Hawkin with one and never a failure great spark.

I replaced my TC lock with a L+R years ago and the difference is night and day.

On older TC locks the frizzen was a poor sparker, but on top of that, the cock was at a bad angle. TC did change the cock angle, and they were replacing them for free. I don't know if cocks are available, but you should give them a call. A new frizzen with new angle cock is a big step up from the original design. If you have the money a LR is the way to go in my opinion. Good luck.

I certainly understand what is being said in regards to getting a lock replacement.
The lyman frizzen worked out great. Worked the toe to get that just right resistance.
no more smashed flints and it seemed that in spite of having the old style hammer and angle the lyman seemed to solve the problem.
I know L&R makes a lock but since this lock is brand new old stock it still has a long life ahead and does not warrant the expense of a replacement with this problem now being solved.
When it gives up the ghost on a major component then I will replace it.
It has been stated that wood removal is required for an L&R so, I will cross that road when I get to it.
Thanks to all for your insight, never stop experimenting.

Glad to see the Lyman frizzen worked.I have about 300 shots threw mine now and still working flawlessly I did try a few different flints and tried different spacing of the flint got it dialed in now the only issue i see is if I don’t wipe the flint down it does get wet after a few shots and that will interfear with the flint sparking.

HA! If I wear down the ends I will just turn it to the other two!
