Why are or aren't you an NMLRA member?

There was some talk in the editorials and letters about that to help revive a flagging membership a while back, but I have not seen an article with any inlines, scopes or sabots (did I missed them?). And no talk about it lately either. Magazine's better than ever. I'm especially enjoying Fred Stutzenberger's "Parallel Wars" series. Don't see any inline matches in the Nat. Shoot results neither, (see Dec. cover). Joe B., member 71570.

Check charter clubs and field reps in Muzzle Blasts for your local info.
Contact Joyce at HQ and she might send you previous MB mags to passout at your shoots

I have been a member for years...(40 ? ) However, it always cranked me about the organization, is that all members subsidized a number of things like camping...etc. Fees charged to the user never covered all the expenses. I believe the plan is to eliminate that and go than a user fee that covers the actual cost .
And I have never been to Friendship, and I never will. It was a great deal if you lived relatively close to the range,
not so much for others who lived a distance away.
I don't care for inlines, but I think bailing out over their inclusion is just dumb.
Just ignore them.

I’ve been a Member if the NMLRA for over 10 years now, the benefits for me is the info gained from Muzzle Blast, such as info on various vendors, Rendezvous and Club activities & up grades to their facility.

Friendship is located 6+ hours from where I live, I’ve been fortunate enough to make the trip 5 or 6 times over the past 10 years.

I’ve never had a bad expierience while there, I’ve heard of some who have but not me.

However it does rain a lot there....

As long as I can afford the dues I’ll conginue too support them just because they help promote our Sport/ Hobby.

FYI: For those who have never been there , the area in front of the NMLRA sign is one of the parking areas..... when it’s not raining!

After many years the NRA Education and Training division changed their muzzle loading basic and instructor training course to the NMLRA course.They got something right.

I have been a member since I discovered an organization promoting Muzzleloading shooting existed. That was in the late 60’s with a seven year lapse in the late 70s to early 80s when raising a family made me economize until I realized I had missed the membership in support of Muzzleloading.
The closest I have been to Friendship is passing through Indianapolis at dark driving a load of belongings for my daughters family on the way home to Maine. I still feel it’s worth the money to have that place as a bucket list item.
Supporting the NMLRA keeps modern as well as primitive Muzzleloading alive and well for future generations regardless of what it does or doesn’t do for me.

Their "promotion" seems to take place within a bubble. Just my observation, take it for what it's worth.

Your right, the board recently did increase camping and shooting fees to cover the cost of Friendship. I have no problem with that. I dont mind paying my own way.

This subject is kind of like beating a dead horse, it never goes away.

I belong and have been to Friendship and Phoenix, where I have met some really nice folks and they have mentored me with my pistol shooting. Also they have increased my knowledge about B/P shooting. You get to meet some of the top shooters in the country and from England, and they are willing to help a person.

For those folks who say they will never go to Friendship and find that the reason not to belong to the NMLRA, how many here belong to the NRA and do not go the their big range in New Mexico, but still belong to the NRA ?

I've been a member since 1976 was out for a year or so in '91 when my company moved me and again just after I retired. I would like to see then bring out a compendium of past articles and how features, even do a cook book there has been a lot of good stuff published ...I just can't keep all the back issues

I just looked them up and found this:

"Hunting Opportunities: When coupled with a valid Indiana hunting license and a hunting permit obtained from the NMLRA office, your NMLRA membership card gives you black powder hunting access to five hundred acres of prime southeastern Indiana land owned by your Association during respective hunting seasons. The NMLRA Hunting Regulations"

Has anybody ever used this benefit? Do they restrict the amount of members allowed on the property each year by lottery? Are you only allowed to access it once every so many years? Do they allow you on the property preseason to scout out the land and signs of game? Thank you.

Just call the organizations office and they will give you every thing you need to know to take advantage of the opportunity.

When I looked into joining, I was hoping to have a local contact, the 2 people they had listed as local "field reps" never returned an email from myself or the organization, they did not have a plan to help increase participation in the sport, but would be happy to take my money and said I was welcome to come to their annual event about 1000 miles from me. I decided not to join.

Joined several years all I got out of it is magazines and a card..so like every thing else didn't rejoin when there are no benefits. Life NRA member, they support my view 50% of the time. Peashooterjoe

PRECISELY why i am not member! I have never been member, nor do i ever intend to be. I live in North Idaho, Well Over 2,000 Miles From Friendship, I think it would be neat to make a Trip there sometime as a “Bucket List” thing, 1 time in my Life would be a PLENTY for me. So what Benefit would there be for ME to Join the NMLRA?

I would MUCH rather Support a Forum like this that i enjoy reading everyday

Judging from the exotic long range bench guns using cylindrical paper patched, Teflon patching material, and muzzle loading shotguns modified from modern shotgun actions, I thing the originators would have been just fine with sabots and in-line guns. Still the originators' emphasis was on traditional firearms and promoting the artistry of the traditional muzzle loading guns.

Why are or aren't you an NMLRA member?
