Bee's Wax

Where can I find beeswax? I looked in a few nests in the barn but they were empty or the bees had moved it.

Try your local crafts store, or depending on how much you need sacrifice a few candles if you use bees wax candles, perhaps there is a bee keeper near you they always have wax, or order it on line just a few suggestions.

I thought hobby lobby might be a good place to look. On my way to Chambersburg pa. There is one there. I have a list of things to get at Fort Chambers Gun Shop, Jim probably has it also.

Used to be able to get at a hardware store in the plumbing section. I believe a toilet seal is beeswax, too.

Yep. Hobby Lobby in the candle making section if you can't find a beekeeper. Keepers will have the most wax in the late fall.

The wife might be upset if I pull out the toilet.

A seal is really cheap. And will provide enough beeswax to last several lifetimes.

A local Beekeeper would be the best place, as it helps keep them in business and helps keep bees in your environment. The downside is that it may not be fully refined.
Hobby lobby does have it.
Toilet rings use to be pure beeswax but are now adulterated with paraffin , I haven't seen a pure one in years.
Hobby stores and the internet likely get their wax from India or China unless otherwise specified.

Note:
A little wax goes a long way if you're making patch lube.

Beleive it or not I baught several large cakes from a guy at the Gunshow a few years back... haven’t needed any for quite some time. The gunshow is next weekend tho, and I’ll look and see if I can find him for ya.

There are seals that contain beeswax but are not pure beeswax.

If you check ebay, you will have plenty to pick from.

Hobby lobby has it at 15$ a pound. When I got home and checked my mail I had a new catalog from Centaur Forge. On page 69 there is beeswax. 1 oz. for 2.95 and 1 lb. for 11.95.

They were about 40 years ago. Now it is a petroleum based wax goo substitute. But it makes EXCELLENT fly dubbing wax if you are a tier.

I used to get big chunks of beeswax from a company at beeswaxfrombees.com but it appears that are no more.

They haven't been bees wax for decades.
Wow, bees wax has gotten spendy now-a-days

Check with your county extension agent. There are beekeepers everywhere. Contact one of them. Sometimes if you purchase some honey you might just be given some of their wax. It is really a scrap product to them. You will have to clean it but that is not a big deal.

Local bee keeper on craigslist had wax @ $5.00 a lb. I thought that was nuts expensive, seems I must connect with him and grab some!

How does one clean beeswax?

I am, or was a bee keeper. Did not have any bees this year, tired of buying bees only to have them all die.

You can clean wax several ways. I use a solar melter and also you can put the wax in a pot of water to melt it. Google it up, lots of examples. Most wax that you buy will already be clean.
