This discussion has been going on since 1990 or before, that I personally know of. It will never stop.

Oh, and so much longer. I bought my first muzzleloader in 1976. WAY pre-interweb. At one local field days there was a group of "mountain men" i stopped to talk to and if you didn't have on a suit of smoked and brain-tanned buckskins and hand-stitched mocs you were worse than a "Pilgrim". I'm sure among themselves they argued about the proper length of the fringe. But they did sell me a 3# coffee can full of FFFg. ;-)

Anyway - they had set their bar and did a nice job setting up their 1825 Plains Trapper camp right there in the heart of NY - where by the 1700's even the aboriginal natives were wearing wool and a Hawken style rifle would likely never have been seen, owned or discharged "back in the day".

Point is - you set the bar for yourself and may or may not choose an appropriate style or period for your area. But it's an evolving process. Most churches don't expect new congregants to be Saints and know all the scriptures. But they do kind of expect new members to conform as they are able. Certainly muzzleloading is not a religion; but like a religion there are some real evangelist zealots and also some birth-and-resurrection club members, and lots of folks in between.

Grenade !!!

True. But that doesn't really apply here - if someone is posting, then they are looking for responses. If you don't want to know, don't ask. If you do ask, be prepared for responses from many different perspectives and take them at face value...
A post may be looking for approval and those who disapprove can say so. Did the poster ask “what is wrong with this?” If he did, then yes, be prepared to discuss and try to do so with respect and tact.

Due to the HC correct police (one in particular) on this forum I will no longer post or read these. I quit this forum years back because of the same comments this is my 50th year shooting building and hunting with blk pwder firearms. I love helping new shooters get started. So what if there rifle is an Investarms,TC or Traditions it is a start maybe down the road they will be more "HC". I wear Pc correct clothing even tho I have Hanes under my skins bad me 2 of my rifles have vent liners beat me with a wet wipin stick to the rest of you Grenadier Zonie Stumpkiller and the rest may the Gods watch over you
Broken rod

I have been limiting my visits to this forum lately for exactly the same reason. I have learned that you can put certain people on ignore, which I have done, I just wish I knew a way to completely block out their posts. I have gotten to where I even dread seeing these folks' profile avatars at left. I didn't read all 80+ replies but my take on it is that TRADITIONAL and HC do not have to be, and indeed are not, the same thing.

My very first post here, well in the top five, if I remember correctly, a very condescending know it all, smugly tried to school me on how nobody ever threw a tomahawk and was a real jerk about it. I knew there are several documented examples of men throwing them in combat but I saw it would go nowhere and just opted out after a bit. I could have got all huffy, but what would be the point, there are jerk's everywhere and everybody I know, myself included, has been a jerk at one time or another.
I just don't understand getting all worked up over these things. turn the computer off and retreat to your safe space.

I agree. Would you stop driving due to an experience with several bad drivers? How about never watching TV again because you saw a bad show? If I let the idiots around me get to me, I'd be in prison.

If you read the article, the resemblance is superficial. The handle is made of softer iron. Then there is the issue that they are not HC/PC for our periods of interest. Furthermore, use on one part of the globe in no way indicates universal use or use elsewhere.

So we are right back where we started - they are neither PC nor HC for the periods encompassing this forum and striker-knife combos aren't remotely historical prior to the 20th century...

Can we please get back to,the forum?
If it's so bad, don't read or post!
This has gone on WAAAAAY to long. Or should I say WAAAAH to long.

This thread has turned into something like a bad car wreck! Ya say to your self “ I should look away! “ but we can’t help ourselves and don’t.

Anyway, I personally see no benefit to further this discussion. Seems to have brought out the worst in otherwise outstanding folks.

Seen quite a bit of finger pointing. Has also created a lot of negative feelings through words that can’t be taken back! Damage has been done. When is enough is Enough!!

Cruel intent masked by justification and logic!!

Names and statements, and illustrations like:

PC/HC Police
Stitch Counters
Strawman
Thin Skinned
Thick Skinned
Pic of Snow Flake
Pic of Patriot hurling grenade
People being placed in ignore boxes.

Goes on and on and on!!

At this point, no one is going to change no one else’s mind or opinion.

Not a moderator nor would I want that thankless job. Hats off to them by the way!! If I were, or if I had the means to either lock this thread or end this out of control back and forth, I’d surly consider it! I personally see no further benifit to this forum or its members?

I’m only speaking as to if it were my decision? I do fully understand that it’s not!

Just my two cents.

Respectfully, Cowboy

Since this has gone on too long figured I would chime in anyway

I noticed on the revolver board there are a group that would always insert their opinion that the correct thing to do is only load enough powder to get the best accuracy and that they have the competition scores to prove their right. And anyone who doesn’t follow their expert advice is wrong

Yet I don’t compete and there is nothing historically inaccurate about loading the cylinder full to the brim cramming the ball in and going for more power and a little less accuracy. For me it’s just more fun and I honestly don’t give a damn if you think it’s wrong because I am not having fun your way.

So while I am fine with historical accuracy sometimes people need to remember they did things more than one way back then and we still can today.

It is this type of my way is the only way type of thinking that ends up with a city full of Prius drivers and to me is total BS. Punching accurate holes in paper is fine if that’s your thing but it might not be mine. I might want a group twice the size with 50% more power because that’s what I like. Whose to say I’m wrong?

My rambling point? Pointing out known historical inaccuracies is one thing but thinking yours is the only way to skin a cat is arrogant

Well said. A whole lot of folks back then were illiterate and couldn't write about what they did, even if they were inclined. Yet being illiterate, they also couldn't read what they were "supposed" to be doing. Dollars to donuts they did a whole lot of dinking around until they found what worked best for them. I follow in their spirit.

I also encountered the HC at rondevous that I attended! After a couple years I just felt unwanted, so I turned to another group! Schools near my home, were more than happy to welcome me for “Live” history lessons. Especially at Thanksgiving! It really drove home what things were like. I have made so many new friends that I even get a big hello when I meet them on the street out of costume! Oh I cannot carry a real Hawkins into the school, but I made a replica out of walnut you would be hard to tell from the real thing! So just walk away from the hate, and that is really what it is. Make a difference, not an enemy!

I'm no where close to being historically or politically correct about much of anything. This forum has been a blessing to me from the first day I found it. The information priceless, suggestions much appreciated and when something I was thinking shown to be foolish I accept it. I come here to learn, seldom have to ask questions because most things have been covered. When I ask something have never been disappointed, always great information given. The classified section here has provided things I can't find locally at reasonable prices and everyone has been honest and helpful. I know the forum and everyone here is not perfect, I'm definitely not, but it sure beats some forums. Thank You to everyone here that makes the forum what it is and puts up folks like me with our dumb questions.

isn't playing pretend what children do, and then they grow up? the HC/PC people would not have lasted one day back in the time period they would like to play in make be leave. live and let live.
