THERE IS A NEW PROGRAM FRIDAYS NIGHTS ABOUT ARMORERS. WHERE THESE WIZARDS RECREATE SOME ARMOR OR WEAPON FROM THE PAST.
NEXT FRIDAY'S CHALLENGE IS TO MAKE A "LONG RIFLE: FROM SCRATCH.
AS IT IS ONLY A ONE HOUR SHOW THIS SHOULD BEHIGHLY EDUCATIONAL OR EXTREMEMLY AMUSING.

WHILE WATCHING A SERIES OF GERMAN MARCHING BANDS, SATURDAY, APPARENTLY EVERY TOWN AND HAMLET OVER THERE HAS ONE. I COULDN'T READ THEIR NAMES BUT ONE SHOWED UP WEARING THE COSTUME WORN BY THE GERMAN TROOPS HIRED TO COME OVER HERE TO HELP THE BRIYISH PUT DOWN OUR FAMOUSE UPRISING WITH THE TALL PEAKED HATS OR HELMETS WITH THE BRASS FACE PLATE. PROBABLY THE MOST REDICULOUS UNIFORM I HAVE EVER SEEN. SOMETHING FOR THE REENACTORS TO DWELL OVER.

Its on the Discovery channel. Eric vonAschwege (who frequents the ALR website was on the first one and had to build a flintlock pistol/axe combo. He won the $10K. Mike Davis is quite a good builder as I have heard so this one should be interesting as well.

I AM PRETTY SURE THE TV program about making a "long Rifle" in five days is on the Discovery chanel and should be interesting,
Surly They can't include making the lock either flint or percussion in that time. It has to be interesting. Their first show which involved making a 15 century sword was rather well done so this should be interesting,

Watched the program wanting to see how they produced the barrel but they used an existing barrel and sort of skipped how the Lock was made, unless I missed seeing it.

Both rifles looked pretty good and the idea of fixing a bayonet on a long rifle was sort of unfair as the rifles were judged mostly by the bayonets and not the rifle itself.

I would be interested in other opinions of the show.

The whole bayonet thing was just odd and had nothing to do with a long rifle. You didn't miss the making of the lock since they did kinda skip over that. I did order a rifle from the winner the other day so maybe it's value will increase rather than decrease. ;)

Especially when the program described the advantages of the long rifle’s range and capabilities, advantages of being able to pick off key targets at longer ranges compared to a smoothbore Bess. They also stated that the American Long Rifle was the Sniper Rifle of its day which I definitely don’t dispute! But putting a bayonet on one is definitely showmanship and ridiculous!!

Also the original longrifle they displayed on the program to the contestants and us viewers had very peculiar sights? The front was a little odd but the Rear?? It was a peep sight that was probably 9” up the barrel from the breech?? I don’t know about you, but unless I had Superman’s vision, there’s no way I could see daylight through that sight let alone the front sight as well through that peephole so far up the barrel !!

Other than those few critiques, I really enjoyed watching the show for intertainment purposes like I had mentioned already.

Here’s some pics I took off the TV screen that shows the sights they had on the original they portrayed!

What do ya think ??

Tonite they are building a blunderbuss flintlock. Same channel 10pm est.

The Blunderbuss episode was what I thought the very best so far.

The first challenge started off with an Indian war club. One contestant out of three was eliminated.

The two remaining contestants had to build a Flintlock Blunderbuss.

Both produced successful guns. I personally didn’t want anyone of the two gentlemen to lose! But I guess someone has to!!

Anyway, it was very intertaining and made me want a Blunderbuss!! LOL

Is there inaccuracies one could probably point out? Yes!

Is the show sort of follow in the lines of some of the aspects of Traditional Muzzleloading, history, and Traditional Gun building to include Black Smithing? Yes!!

Some good intertainment to pass a part of your evening!

Respectfully, Cowboy

On the blunderbus episode the steampunk looking expert commented that he was impressed that one of the builders had taken time to mill the rear of his barrel into a proper “hexagon” shape......

Too much profanity!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bleep, bleep, bleep, enough said.....

There is Another program of Dubious interest,
Brothers In Arms on the History channel on, I think, Wednesday nights.
I assume the producers insist on it being a merry Mad cap couple guys "Recreating" old time weapons to try them out.
A lot of Horseplay and Macho committed they put abell muzzle a modern 10 gauge shot gun and feel that it is a recreation of a blunderbuss.
The way they horse around looks like a demonstration of how accidents are caused.
The general impression I got was that everything in the past is a laughable joke.

I'll give it a few more tries but the superficial thinking displayed in the first episode was disappointing.
Would like other's opinions. The concept of the show was good.tThe actual carrying out of that concept was very poor in my view.
