Planning on a Kibler colonial rifle for my first build. Trying to decide whether to get with or w/o wooden patch box. Going for that pre rev war into rev war look.
Is the patch box useful in muzzle loading today and how many of you use one ?
Or is it just for aesthetics? Any advice appreciated.

Hello, I have much insight on the Kibler! Check out my build thread and images on the completed rifle within this builders section.

IMO absolutely yes on the box. No reason not to go with one! Many HC examples on the box and very well done on the Kibler kit. You will absolutely have to fit the box for proper fitment. Nothing hard just patience and a little elbow grease.

Your decision on a Kibler kit is a very wise one. Please take your time and do not overlook the small details. This is a top notch kit and one that deserves being built in such a manner.

I have the Kibler with the patchbox and am glad that I got it. I usually use the PB to hold extra flints, tow for cleaning and a turnscrew and/or extra percussion caps.
