Hi all, Im taking my Hawken plains rifle with .50cal barrel for a hunt, deer mainly . Its eight groves, 1-48" twist 20" barrel, now as we are not allowed .22 cal rifles in our hunting parks and i want to get a few rabbits as well, so can you shoot lead shot from a rifled barrel . How to load?, 50gr powder, cork wad, two tsp #2 shot, and cork wad. Has anyone tryed this with a rifled barrel. Thanks, Homebrew .357. PS, The Hawken .

Yes, shot in a rifled barrel has been tried. The rifling imparts spin to the shot load and open up the pattern so much that its not very effective beyond a very few yards. Blown, ineffective shot patterns are result beyond 5 to 10 yards.

OK ,thanks guys, thought that was the case, will try a light load on paper to see where they are going, only need a few to go straight in the bunny's direction.
