A mate dropped his lovely 16gauge Durrs Egg double over a few days ago. One cone had collapsed and the other looked mighty suspect. I had a gentle go at them with a tiny pair of vice grips, the collapsed cone, there was only the square shank section left, actually just broke off at the top of the thread, the other one just felt too tight. I made up a mix of 50/50 acetone and ATF, soaked the breaches for a few days, applied heat with the War Offices little gas torch she uses for making delicious Lime Brûlées. Gently working the better cone with the tiny vice grips, a gentle rocking motion and lo, out it came. I removed the broken thread section with a small "easy out", I consider I was most fortunate as the vice grips could have rounded off the square section, but a ver careful approach. The thread appear to be in ver good condition and now I am measuring up the surviving cone which looks like a 1/4 with 28 TPI and Track of the Wolf looks promising, otherwise I will send it out to a chap I know in the US and have him make a couple of new ones.

TOF has the 1/4X28 cones and the oversize versions too. Last gun I refurbished I ordered the .005" and .10" oversize to make sure that the cones were snug.

Cones are on their way back from Rick Weber, and I will fit them up asap. and post a photo

Cones arrived the other day, so here they are fitted, went in like they were made for the gun !!! Rick Weber did an excellent job as usual. I made a mistake the gun is a Joseph Egg.

For some reason your picture does not appear. Good to hear that you are getting this old girl but back in action.

I had Rick make a couple new tubes (nipples for yanks) for a double rifle I recently picked up. Rick does great work, plus he is a great friend of mine.

We have been joking with Rick that we are going to have some t-shirts made up that state: Nipples by RIck and wear them while we are shooting at Friendship.

The nice thing is that Rick can and did in yours make them with a square vs a rectangle for where the wrench goes. My double rifles tolerance are so tight that a modern commercially made nipple with the rectangle will not work. The hammer cups hit it.

Simply solution, have Rick make a set of platinum nipples that are square.
