Gentlemen,
Do any of you have a reproduction Remington 1858 (really a 1863) in the SHORT barrel version?
What do you think of them? How is balance and point of aim?

My information is they were originally produced in .36--- any information they were made in .44??
Thank you,
David

Have an original and multiple 58 reproductions in ”˜standard’ barrel length along with three of the short barreled ones. All are 45 caliber. At the range or for HC purposes the standard barrel length is fine, but for carrying or SASS, I definitely prefer the short barreled version. The short loading lever makes it a bit more difficult to load, but that is about my only complaint. I use a loading stand and carry preloaded cylinders and rarely use the loading lever, especially with the short ones.

I like the way the short barreled ones handle, although I prefer shorter revolver barrels in general. All my carry revolvers have barrel lengths between 4-5/8” and 6-1/2, with the 4-5/8” getting the most holster time.

The original Remington Beals was .36 cal.
The army contract caused all post '62 revolvers to be made in .44.

I have a 5.5" Uberti copy and must say that at 25 yards it is THE MOST ACCURATE REVOLVER I OWN !

Gentlemen,
I thought the '63 police was a shorter barrel made in .36 (only about 1000 made).
As I have gotten older, .44 is easier to handle than .36, but I want to be HC.
David

You're going to have a hard time being HC if you get a 58 in 36 cal.Because a real 36 cal. Remington was built on a smaller frame, unlike the reproductions that are all built on the same frame as the44cal. BUT! I think at one time a company did make their reproduction 36 cal on a smaller frame like the originals,,,but I forget which company it was.

If anyone is interested-----While browsing the gun auction sites today,,I found a 1858 Euroarms 36 cal. built on the smaller frame..It ends 9/24/18 11:50 pm...Almost forgot  ,,It was on GUNBROKER

I also picked up a smaller frame .36 this year. Have no idea who made it, as I do not have a way to tell manufacture's stamps( aside from Uberti and Pietta).

I sent one of those to a gunsmith to have work done.
And it was stolen while at his shop.
I'm still smoking about that.
