This thing will split kindling as well as a bigger one. It's nimble, if that makes sense. Having the flat end really comes in handy, too.

The bulbous end of the handle is perfect for swinging. If I had to get in a fight with a hawk, this is the one I'd take.

My company carries a full sized axe in the field for firewood and shelter building. It makes shorter work of everything, and just switching off hauling it on the march prevents it from being cast away in disgust haha.

SgtEry,

Fwiw, the sort of axe that this is would be called a "war axe" rather than a tomahawk & would serve the purpose of both axe & weapon for us Woodland folk.
(The Museum at Tallequah has a quite similar war axe that was re-handled sometime after the AWI & was carried by a NA soldier during TWBTS & possibly according to the Deerinwater family of Tulsa in the S-A War by a family member, too.)

yours, satx

A new "Young" friend of mine call him Tim bought a percussion rifle from me when we met. In our conversation we discoverd that he 27yo., and I 69yo., had a lot in common I asked him if he was sell in his modern firearms to finance his path into Black Powder. His answer stuck with me and I quote him often. "Guns are for buying not selling" "It is though ok to swap if you are moving up." I liked his philosophy then and now.. So no you can't have too many.

As the man says, This post is useless without pictures. I think hawks and knives are beautiful. Thanks to SGTERV for his pic. No connection, but I'm getting ready to order one of Beaver Bills camp axes. He has some beautiful presentation hawks too, but I just need a good working hawk or axe. Take a look under products here, http://www.beaverbill.com/main/ to see some fine work.
