I get it, and Im not disagreeing completely. BUT. Diversity keeps operations going. Of course, as I said Im not a member. I'm just musing

Ml stands for muzzleloader, but the r stands for rifle, but much goes on about muskets fusils and pistols, even blunderbuss. I’m not a member and not defending them, but a club just or fusil shooters or trekkers or British big bores is going to be a small club.

The NMLRA has an agreement with the Miami BPCR which allows the BPCR to use the range at Friendship for contests.

That does not mean the NMLRA is sponsoring the event.
It does not mean the NMLRA is adding cartridge guns to their muzzleloading events.

It does mean the NMLRA gets paid for the use of their facilities which helps with their revenue.

Friendship has a lot of different shooting ranges and I'm sure that even when the BPCR is doing their shooting there are other ranges there for muzzleloading members to use.

:hmm: I see back on Pg 4 I was quoted as saying something I didn't say??? I now don't even remember what it was I was quoted as saying but didn't so I guess it doesn't matter but....That was weird? How'd it happen? Could cause hard feelings in some situations?

I don’t mind the unmentionables so much.

I don’t want one , but some like them .

As far as the NMLRA promoting them, I just don’t read the articles in MB.

They don’t shoot them against traditional style rifles in competition . That I know of.

They have there own matches, funny thing is here in Tn. the only NMLRA Teritorial Match is for those things.

I have no opposition to allowing use of the range for non-ml events. It is a source of revenue and can bring in new people. That really is not an issue.

As I said in an earlier post, I enjoy competive shooting and I do not object to shooting against an xxx gun--as long as the sights are compatible. If the other fella has open sights on his xxx gun, I can't tell that he has any advantage over my open sighted traditional flintlock at the distances common in ML matches.

The unmentionable form of ignition has been around at least since the 1700's so IS HC. Basically the only difference is in stock style. I wonder how much objection there would be if they had a more traditional stock style.

Not meaning to offend, but before we turn up our elitist noses at Spanish CVA and Traditions guns, leave us not forget the thousands of Spanish M1852 muskets furnished by Spain to the American army during the Revolution. Not to be overlooked is the fact that these rifles allow new shooters a means to get into the black powder game at a price they can afford. After all, not all have the ability to enter the sport with a custom made rifle that is an exact copy of a genuine original. Mea Culpa: I have to confess that I have always liked these Spanish factory guns, along with the Lyman and Pedersoli versions and own many more of them than I should (at least that is what my wife says).

I don't know how that happened.

Perhaps 52Bore got to frinkling around with something in the quote box?
If someone is quoting other posts and they mess with the stuff at the beginning of their post between the bracket, quote, end bracket, things can get mixed up in the way the final post will read when it is added to a topic.

Try not to worry about it.

I am, but somehow it took a trip to the pond to get over it. Took the daughter, a fish magnet, and after baiting for her while she caught like 12 catfish (I was allowed to catch 3) I got over it completely. We kept 4 and after cleaning them I wasn't aware it had occurred. Till now?

Anyway if I say something I didn't and it upsets anyone just remember I didn't say it. Or at least no-one saw me not say it. If I said it and it was insensitive or wrong or nasty, I was at the pond :surrender:

What makes you think we ignored it? We pointed at it, laughed it up in the Moderator's Lounge, made goofy comments and faces . . .

I guess you meant you were incorrectly quoted(?)

What do you want me to do about that? I'm not your editor and I don't "correct" content. I could delete the thread, lock the tread, delete all the original posts or quoted posts individually if you would like. Not my job to correct spelling or content.

If I stared being the judge of what would be correct to post it would be my forum - not yours.

Blackjack: right on. As far as profit goes, does anyone think Santa Claus puts up the money for the magazine, or the staff? Be sure and check other sources for the ridiculous laws that are proposed regularly. Any group that opposes that sort of thing needs our support. Numbers count very heavily with politicians. graybeard

In the late 70's when I was in my mid 20's (yes, I can hold a grudge with the best of them) I attended the SE Regionals.
I was a good shot though young and the man to beat at local competitions. But at that regional I was immediately set on by a case of the nerves and scored poorly on most of my targets. But the 50 yard offhand was always my best match and when I came to it I managed to tighten up and shot a good score, if memory serves me around 47 or 48 with a couple of X's, though at the time I didn't think it was so great.
Some time later I got a letter with the match results. Imagine my surprise that I had finished 3rd in the 50 yard offhand. But there was no medal or certificate or info on how to get it enclosed.
Finishing 3rd was a really big thing for me in a regional match.
I made some calls, yes, 3 medals were to be given.
SO, WHERE IS MINE?
I got the runaround from everybody I talked to until I finally gave up. At which time I got a little, maybe more than a little, bitter towards the NMLRA. And resolved to never have anything to do with them again. There's more to the story but I'm not getting into it.
I'm now 65 and still stand by that resolution.

OK so I joined up as I promised.

I downloaded back issues of Muzzle Blasts online, and the magazine has been improved since the last time I saw a copy. :wink:

There were several articles by John Curry, author of Rockhouses and Rhododendron, and who has appeared in a video on trekking. I liked those.

They are a competition-centric organization, but that's fine, since it also seems that competition (that doesn't include a "trophy" for participation) appears to be good in bringing in youngsters.

In spite of all the posts espousing membership in the 2 orgs, I 've throughout my life belonged to the "non-joiners club" w/ only a couple of exceptions.
Had to join a local gun club because a subdivision took away my shooting range and for one yr was a member of both the NMLRA and NRA. At the time, the members who attended rendezvous controlled the content of Muzzlblasts and the many ensuing articles were mainly about what equipment was legal at rendezvous and that too many attendees don't observe the rules. Also a lot of complaining about fellow attendees and their kids.

One attendee happened to look inside a tent and saw an uncovered plastic cooler and said that seeing the cooler destroyed his entire rendezvous.

These articles displayed too much bickering and seeing Muzzleblasts was my reason for joining, I promptly let my membership lapse.

I protect my 2nd Amendment rights at the ballot box and don't need orgs telling me how to vote and receiving endless requests for money from the NRA......Fred

I told them (tell them) at least 2 times a month NOT to call me on my business line, they agree to remove the number from their list (for 2-3 weeks?). We let the Home # go and have cells now, thankfully they haven't found that # yet. Joined a life member so this would stop....if I could get the Money back I would JUST TO STOP THE CALLS which often begin with requesting we listen to a "brief message" from Charleston Heston :shake:
