SO I have no experience shooting foxes but for turkeys the "Skychief special" gives me a lot denser patterns out of my percussion 12 gauge SxS.

I have yet to try it out of my new 20 gauge fowler but...

My load is:
-70 grains Goex FFg
-A Hard over powder card or 3 of the thin over shot cards.
-100 Grain equivalent of #6 lead Shot
-A thin Over shot Card
Lastly, a sloppy wet with vegetable oil cushion wad.

Strange I know to put the veg wad on top but it works!!

Two of you guys are quoting much the same loads for turkey. What range are you confident to shoot at with these loads?
Thanks!

I'm going to try and develop a turkey load for the SXS in my earlier post. May be 120 to 160 years old. Appears in very good shape. I have bags of 2, 4, 5, and six shot. I have 1.5 Swiss, 2 and 3 F, Fiber wads, A and B wads from Circle Fly are on the way. Thought I'd start with about 70 gr of 2F and an equal volume of shot. I want a good load for about 30-35 yds. What do you think of duplexing or even tri-plexing the shot? Has anyone tried that?

I have not. I would try the Skychief load (which I erroneously used for years before coming here). Load up "backwards" with the powder, a over shot card, the layered? shot and a heavy oil soaked over powder wad. Bet yer pleased :v

I have 1.5 Swiss

Do test that 1 1/2 Fg. Swiss before taking on a hunt. I had a pound and could not get ignition with my flint fowler, no way, no how. It is different than most other bp, reportedly intended for bp cartridge use.
