I remove my vent liners and clean them before hunting season.

I want a spare for a T/C renegade and a Lyman GPR.

Are RMC ones OK with the allen key versus the stock ones.

I never used the white lightning ones. They need to be retapped for the Lyman?

I am happy with the stock one. Either way I go, a fresh 1/16th inch drill bit will be going through it....

Just want a spare in my flint wallet incase I forget it at home before loading it at the cabin.

Had a real nice deer come by with my Lyman GPR. The gun did not fire. Gunk in the flash hole.

I agree, that'll normally work. However, I want to make darn sure it's clear and clean. Especially this hunt. I'm going miles into the woods. I only get one chance every now and then up in the adirondack wilderness. At or near home, no big deal.......

I've had VERY good results using T/C vent liner No. 7327 in my flintlock T/C "Hawken".
The pkg. says it's for use in ALL T/C flintlock muzzleloaders. The threads are 1/4-28.
The T/C liner has a 1/8" opening on the outside cut for a 1/8" hex key (supplied with the liners). The hole through the liner is larger than any other I have ever used. In addition the inside is "coned". As a result of the extra-large hole in the front, and the cone in the rear...you have really good passage of flame from the priming pan to the main charge. In my EXPERIENCE..(not opinion)the T/C vent liner is 100 % reliable.
I highly recommend them for a hunting rifle.

I have also had excellent results with Jim Chambers White Lightnin' vent liner, in my Mike Davis built SMR longrifle. Jim doesn't offer his vent liner in 1/4-28.

Just bought an RMC vent liner for My Lyman Trade Rifle. Fit was good but haven`t got the time to try it out !!!!

Removing a TC vent liner, is no different than removing a nipple on a cap lock riffle. I use the newer one's which use an allen wrench. I put thread release on threads and just snug them down.

My custom flntlocks, have white lightning liner, which I never remove.

TC"s have a lip on the liners, and are designed to be removed. They are not "traditional" correct, but do work great.

I'd like to piggy-back on this thread and gain some education myself too, without hi-jacking the discussion. The original post mentioned the Lyman rifle...

I see the RMC touch hole liners here: http://www.rmcoxyoke.com/inc/sdetail/rmc_flintlock_touch_hole_liner_replacements/6549/84

And "some other brand" of liner that TOW sells here: https://www.trackofthewolf.com/Categories/PartDetail.aspx/960/1/THL-LYMAN-S

Both of these are for the Lyman flinters, and don't require that you re-tap your barrel. The "white lightning" touch hole liner that was mentioned is also available online, but I don't think it will fit in the standard Lyman touch hole threads. IT would require that you drill out the factory threads, and then re-tap for their liner. That's a non-starter for me...

Any opinions on whether the RMC is better than what TOW is selling?

Yes the GPR will need to be re-tapped for the White lightning. And it's not removable for cleaning.

Just shot 10 shots out of my Lyman Trade Rifle, with the new RMC Liner. Perfect and very fast ignition. Very satisfied....

I put a RMC vent liner in my Lyman GPR . . .they were pretty affordable, so I bought 2 . . .It was easy and It seemed to be an improvement.

What diameter is the hole in the RMC?

I have a pack of the TC liners with allen wrench, but the hole is larger than I want. IIRC, they are at least .070".

Regarding D&T for White Lightning, I just did one this morning. I had the 5/16" "kit" from TOTW, and it just fits on the flats of a 15/16" barrel. The 1/4" would allow more leeway for positioning, but has a smaller diameter cone inside. Regardless, if your barrel is less than 15/16", you'll want the 1/4" version. D&T was painless.

Here's a 5/16 white lighting on my 15/16 GPR barrel.

I order the rmc as a spare. Just want one in my hunting pouch.

White lightning will come in time, but too close to early muzzleloader season to tinker. 2 weeks!

RMC vent liners, according to the RMC web site come in 1/4-28, 10-32, M6-.75 and 5/16-24 thread sizes.

I didn't see any 32 pitch threads like the White Lightning liner uses available.
